^^^ From Grand the walk goes past some empty lots and over the tracks. Lots of empty land, places to hide and I can see some people not want to make that walk alone at night. And going home in winter at 5pm is night.
But it's a straight shot down Halsted. How's the pedestrian traffic on that stretch, from Milwaukee to Lake? It'll make a big difference how that project fronts that elevated section of Halsted.

The walk down Halsted isn't great because of the slope and the windy overpass, and the derelict Pickens-Kane building, but Green St is actually not a bad walk. Just one block of emptiness between the Metra tracks and Kinzie St, the rest is pretty typical Chicago side street.

For suburban commuters, Sterling Bay already runs Metra shuttles to 1K Fulton, with two large buildings on the route they should be able to run a higher frequency or at least a legitimate bus.

Curbed has a tour of the interiors from 311 W. Illinois: https://chicago.curbed.com/2017/9/27...opment-3eleven

The fact that JGMA did the interiors makes me wonder if they were also behind the unused original design that Alderman Reilly deemed too sculptural?

I hate that trump lot..the way it lights up at night is horrible. should have made the lighting inside less visible from the outside.

I beleive the bricks here are filler to hang the terracotta on, and more importantly the old school answer to protecting steel beams from heat during a fire.

^^^ Haters gonna hate, but this one is sharp. Love the mechanical screen. Even the details on the poured in place concrete core aren't trying to be fake stone. Just evokes the old style, doesn't try to ape it. This one is still modern, almost structural, with just a little nod to older styles in terms of detailing.

The nice window treatments can't save how garish and contrived the added upper floors look.
