I took this photo in late June from the island airport. You will be able to see most of the southcore developments from this vantage point. The typical water view of Toronto is definitely changing and the southcore towers will dominate that view in the future.

^^Haha, no. Wouldn't it be nice if that were a verdant park? Instead, they want to extend the runway to accommodate Bombardier jets.

No thanks. Give me the longer runway and jets. I love the Island Airport. It's convenient, a huge economic boost to the city, amps up the energy of the city, not to mention we get to watch airplanes take off right next to downtown! How fabulous is that. I have little interest in keeping Toronto some quiet city in a park. I moved here for the hustle and bustle with all that goes with that: packed streets, smells, noise, lights, monumental buildings, cultural diversity. Sensory overload and excitement is why people move to big cities, not peace and quiet.

Take away that hangar and the equipment etc being stored there, and it wouldn't be too bad a picture.

Without wanting to thread drift too much, I, too, am looking forward to the jets coming into Billy Bishop. More routes and distance available from the island is only a good thing to me.

Ice condos in background. I included the my picture so I can pretend I'm staying on topic... Lol

Pearson is going to be connected to downtown by train next year. Porter just a greedy brat. If they want to compete on other routes do it from Pearson. I don't think jets will even be a noticeable difference, especially if they are as quiet as they are supposed to be, but that's not the point... If it's expanded and west jet is let in and air canada expands, then when do you draw the line? You have consolidated services at international airport for a reason... With the ridiculous amount of expansion going on in toronto, is it really so bad to keep toronto island one area that is immune to the craziness?

Hustle and bustle is unquestionably a necessary component of great cities, but it's nice to have a refuge nearby to which to escape, like Central Park. NYC is unimaginable without it. The Toronto Islands, while pleasant in their current state, are part-refuge and part-airport. An airport expansion will only serve to vitiate the already-tenuous serenity of the islands.

Looking good. Is the east tower topped out save for the Swiss-cheese roof element?

Yes, but this isn't the way to go about doing that. Toronto needs to grab the few remaining lots is the core and set them aside for public square and parks. Unfortunately, we're not doing that. We're about to build a 200m condo on that lot on Wellesley East. That was the last option just off Yonge and we blew it.

All that remains is that big lot on Queen East and decking the rail tracks. If we lose both of those 2 as well, we're in big big trouble.
