what i find disappointing about los angeles pics is many of them don't capture the natural beauty of la so much as the beauty that can be fabricated through skilled camera work, photo-editing, and careful strategic placement. through deliberate manipulation. but natural beauty is not a major emphasis of our local culture anyways.

that being said, they are breathtaking photos

Word.

None of ever show the Los Angeles I know and recognize. I guess that doesn't count, though -- maybe overprocessed photos of our white elephant skyline is more emblematic of our city?

I disagree, they are somewhat of a charicature, as many shots of these type are.
Just like the Houston thread, its somewhat of an embellishment, but not far off.
Its kinda like the movie "LA Story", which was a charicature of Los Angeles, but there are some people who live lives in LA not far off from that.
Im sure everyone from the LA area has a different perception of what Los Angeles is.
My in-laws grew up in the Pasadena area and I got to spend some time with them driving around the city, so I got a perspective of the city from the 40's/50's/60' which was really great, but its definitely not the perspective of someone growing up there today.
For me, I only ever lived in Torrance and Redondo Beach, so I tend to see "Los Angeles" as the entire basin not just LA proper.

Ive got to replay this pano though.....

I disagree. When I look for pictures of LA, I try to find pictures that reflect other people's ideas of Los Angeles: This etheral, vast, totally original and unique city with a haunting and dreamlike quality. Most people see LA like that so why not give it to them? And the music: I used to go to LA at like 2 or 3 am sometimes and just find someplace to sit and listen to really soft and ambient electronica. Trust me when I say that there is no feeling in the world that describes how awesome I felt doing that.

Thanks for posting these ThreeHundred! I love the pano and I do enjoy these pictures to an extent but they do fail to capture the real feeling of the city and its people... I suppose not that all photo threads need to capture the essence of its people but too many of these overexposed skylines kind of gives a soulless feeling to the city.

I think this thread perfectly captures LA’s willingness to accept the creative and artsy, and emphasizes the craft we have mastered “making it all look good on the big screen”

threehundred- nice thread!

^ People think that LA is a giant movie studio anyway. Why not give the people what they want? Lol.
