It seems that there will be more cranes coming down than going up during the next couple of months. But one will be going up for this project in two weekends per this permit:

The updated site plan was approved and released this week. The elevations are on page 31 and 32. The height comes in at 93'.

The groundbreaking is next week. The ABJ article linked to below says they are using a new construction technology to build it. The article has a new rendering as well.

Wow thats awesome, it will go up quick! Austin will look so different in just a couple of years, I have only been here since 2014 and its crazy how much has been developed. I love living in a city where I can watch all this transformation, I may be in the minority though lol.

There's safety in numbers here at SSP.

You know, considering the density of West Campus (this one only adding to it), a people mover might not be a bad idea...just between West Campus and UT. Obviously that could connect with any pipe dream of a system that ever (or never) happens for the rest of the city. It's just amazing how many students live there.

Do we know how many units The Corner will have?

I'm looking forward to the day when the university area blends into the rest of downtown.

It's getting close to that. The Capitol Complex plans will help accomplish that as well. But there will always be predominately low to mid-rises around the Capitol that will keep West Campus and Downtown visually separated.

I'd be interested in a 400 ft building being built in West Campus, although I'm sure there are restrictions that would prevent this, right? Eventually it will blend a bit more. I'd love for a commuter rail system to be built running along I-35 connecting Downtown to West Campus. I take the 801 from downtown to campus everyday, but this would be a nice alternative if other rails connected to a main track.

At this point West campus is becoming it's own little city with lots of street interaction along the drag.

I sometimes refer to West Campus as Austin's Midtown. But it needs more non-residential construction to function like a "midtown" IMO.

Agree. I'd like to see more office development in West Campus.

Sadly, it doesn't have to be that way. We could easily consolidate several state govt buildings into one large tower. In Indianapolis, it's pretty much done that way (used to work in HR on first floor, DNR was 4th floor, firearms, etc were on west wing of 1st floor, etc). Same with city functions...all one building.

Not to mention, but doesn't downtown technically go all the way to Lamar? West of the capitol complex, is that not included? Perhaps it doesn't go up that far north, but downtown could eventually wrap around the capitol complex and connect with West Campus.

I also think that, while consolidation of state offices could happen (and I would like that), I don't see them doing something like that any time soon. I see it as saving on utilities, more efficiency with offices altogether, etc., and not to mention the possibility of selling land (or actually doing public/private stuff that they've talked about so much...). The reality, however, is that it would be some investment up front to save in the end. Investment up front is what seems to scare the State away from really getting anything practical done at all.

It doesn't have to be all high rises up there. The main thing is that it be connective and inviting. No doubt, though, a few taller ones could be sprinkled in, but I sort of like the definition between the West Campus skyline and the lower part of downtown.
