Welcome to our merry band of misfits, JonnyRingo! And BTW, nice shots of the elevator core! Is there anything going on with construction not involving the core, though? It seems like it's been forever since construction officially started, and I was wondering if the base was starting to take shape at least.

Perhaps they built the main casino area and parking structure first, and are just now really going into full gear on the hotel tower? In other words, "the base" as glowrock asked about. That wouldn't surprise me a bit. Get the parking and casino open first for a money stream, then complete the hotel tower a year or two later.

The casino has been open for several years already, SnyderBock... The hotel is an addition to the current casino and parking structure, though I'm sure the parking structure will be increased by several levels as well in this case.

Oh yeah, that's right... I forgot about that.

Seems strange that construction has moved so slowly and that they have built up the elevator core so high, without any of the floors built.

A state legislator is currently authoring a proposal to increase or even eliminate the betting limits and to open up gaming for 24 hours, and increasing the types of games offered. Whether this proposal is accepted by Colorado voters is another question.

I haven't heard anything about adding on to the parking structure because that's exactly what my company already did two years ago. I even did the precast drawings for most of it. Back then the CD's showed for the hotel future expansion.

It turned out to be one of the coolest projects that I have worked on. It isn't everyday that you get to add four levels on to an existing six level structure. As you can see from my pictures below we had to construct steel platforms for the cranes to sit on. Most tower cranes don't have the lifting capacity for our pieces so we had to come up with this method.

Crane number one was placed near the edge to pick the pieces from the street level and raise them to stage on the structure. Crane number 2 would then pick the piece and set it in place.

They've had major issues with the soil (or solid rock rather). They were delayed in even getting the core going.

It's great to see it so high now. I'm all for getting rid of the limits and allowing them to become full on resorts. I think if that were to happen, Central City could have a chance to recover again with some new resort casinos on the top of the hill just before town when you are coming in through the Central City Parkway.

Anyway...thanks for the update.

Is there any room to expand in Blackhawk proper??....

....or will the area between the two towns be the next best choice for expansion? Also, I am wondering how the combination of the two compares to places like Lake Tahoe and Deadwood sizewise and revenue?

I would love if they opened up the gambling and also brought in some name performers and groups like ZZ Top

Nice so it is moving along, kinda slow but indeed moving along, both of those photos are great BTW however they do not seem to represent a full 34 Storys IMHO Sorry.

But this is definitely very cool! I hope the gaming laws change in the near future so Denver can have it's very own mini Vegas in our back yard!!!

Topped Out

If you look closely at the very top of the core structure, you will see column-like abutments that have embed plates that will serve as attachment points for the roof steel. If that was not the top of the core, it would be a solid sheer wall. The tie-backs on the crane are at floors 19 and 29. Each row of embed plates visible on the face of the core walls in the second photo, represent one floor. Thus, the photo only shows from level 12 and up.

I've heard a rumor....

...That Colorado Spring's "Focus on The Family" is going to strongly oppose Colorado Casino's going to 24 hour operations with open gambling stakes and games.

I take it that the Ameristar will be built primarily with steel beams and trusses? Or will they use concrete?

Yeah well they need to mind their own damn business IMHO!!!

If some Coloradoains want to gamble all night on the Weekend? who cares? It would keep gambling proceeds here locally instead of everyone flying out to Vegas. Are they that Retarded? Nevermind I know the answer to that!!!
