Much better colouring than I was expecting. The first sketches that were on the first page of the Calgary thread made it look so dark and gothic almost.

The lower half of the building is a bit pomo, but outside of that, it's a great looking project. Hotel space, residential space, and office space, a restaurant/lounge on the 29th floor to boot.....very nice.

This is just what I needed to kick off the long weekend

That is awesome

I still like the Bow better overall, but the massing on this one is very good.

What's this about a lounge on the 29th floor?

My favorite project for Calgary. No doubt. Definitely no doubt.

Is it just me or would this project be built fairly quickly given that it gets thinner as it reaches the top?

Yeah, it definitely is in the same vernacular as Trump, but better executed in my opinion - particularly the spire. Not surprising they are similar since I believe Zeidler designed Trump as well.

Personally, this sort of post modernism is not my favourite. However, I do actually really like bankers hall. I'm sure this will be a super popular building in Calgary. It also has a nice mix of uses, and will have a really good presence both on the street and in the skyline.

Yes, this is why I mentioned that it had a Toronto-esk look to it. There are similarities between Trump and this.

Well, it definitely is not my style, BUT, it looks like a healthy concept that could benefit the urban realm quite a bit... and it stands apart from some of the unispired crap from previous decades that currently graces the skyline

If Trump Chicago and Trump Toronto had a kid, it'd be LaCaille on 4th.

I'm only picturing Trump on Trump if it is his daughter!

Edit: I better clarify this, not Donald with his daughter, but two of her!

A disaster IMO. Like I said in the the Highrise Construction forum its a contrived, unimaginative POMO derivation of countless other similarly mundane pieces of architecture. Just imagine how awful and dated it will look in 25-30 years. Now try the same thing with the Bow. One will be timeless, the other not so much.
Bet you guys can GUESS what I voted.

PS: I can understand why many like it, so don't take my commentary condescendingly.

I saw that, and I responded to it. This building is vaguely similar to trump, but is WAY better executed!

My favorite thing about this project is that it doesn't have a twin.

I love everything about it except for it's street integration. It will be a bit too imposing from street level to my eye, and I'm never a fan of recessed spaces.

This building looks fabulous! I think its two best features are its vertical mixture of uses and lovely design. Actually, I'm going to add a third, the high-end stores depicted on the ground floor. This is the sort of building that Calgary should be producing on a consistent basis. Over the last couple of weeks I've heard a lot of disappointing things about the direction the city's heading in but this proposal gives me hope yet...

With The Bow and LaCaille I think we can do this now... Everybody point at Chicago and repeat after me:

"Who are you?"
"Who are you?"
"Who are you?"

Whether or not you like the project, I think you'd be hardpressed to disagree when I say that this is the kind of building visitors/tourists will take pictures of.

"Lovely design"? Come on... it's been done. It's just a post-modern collection of recycled bits from previous eras. If the city should do anything consistently, it should be to take risks and to innovate... not re-incarnate design ideas which have had their day in the sun.

I actually very much doubt that. It just isn't in a particularly photogenic or touristy location. The Bow has Centre Street, Centennial/Canterra the Waterfront... others on Stephen Ave. This building is kinda in the middle of nowhere.

It will look great in amongst the skyline when looking from the northwest (up by SAIT)
