This isn't really new news, but I don't recall it being posted yet. Virgin may be one of those not yet announce hotel operators. From the article:

Other Virgin Hotels are being built in New York and Chicago, the latter of which will open this fall. Additional locations under consideration for Virgin Hotels properties include Dallas, Austin, Los Angeles, Miami, Palm Springs, San Francisco, Washington DC, and London.

We have been getting crazy rain for a change. Depending on which local weather station one watches, Lake Travis is up between 8-10' YTD with a good chunk of that being in May.

I heard on Fox7 last week that at that point Austin had had more than 18 1/2 inches of rain for the year, and I'm sure we've had maybe another 2 inches since then. Anyway, they said we've had more rain this year than both Portland and Seattle by about 4 inches. There's some more rain out around San Angelo and north of them. I don't know if it'll get to us tonight unless it starts building up farther south. It's going on 3+ weeks now with rain chances every day of the week. I don't think that's happened for many years. Our patio and walkways are starting to turn green with algae.

We usually have more rain the Portland and Seattle. In fact, those cities are really not very rainy at all. They're misty, sure, but not rainy. Atlanta has the highest average rainfall per year of major American cities.

Just off hand I know Miami gets 10 more inches per year than Atlanta. New Orleans too if you count that as a major city.

Ohhhh it seems you're right about both. Well, all of these cities out-do pretty handily Portland and Seattle.

It is surprising that Portland and Seattle's reputation as rainy is overblown. Overcast and drizzling is much more accurate.

Eastern Washington state is downright arid if you've ever seen it.

Here's the question though (since I'm not in Austin either): is the rain in the right location to truly make a big difference for Travis and Buchanan, or is it downstream like the major rain/flood events over the past couple years?

Most of it has been downstream. My neighborhood (Barton Creek at Loop 360) has gotten a little over 10 inches in the last two weeks. But there has been enough over the lakes and upstream to make some difference.

The lakes are 41% full now and I can't even remember the last time it was in the 40's. Lake Travis is 633.74.

Pic of Lake Travis I took this past weekend at the Oasis:

The island is definitely getting smaller.

Great picture Syndic! The lake is slow rising, I notice it traveling to Lakeway yesterday evening.

I didn't realize it at first, but it appears these are two separate projects. One is at 1120 E 12th St and the other at 1322 E. 12th St. On the architect's website, there are renderings for both.

Yeah, I can't either. I know they've been in the 30s for a while. Good to know there is some progress.

Wow, that's a big difference from the last time I saw it, last summer. The peninsula/island is more bearable with green on it, haha. I'd still rather it be underwater. I bet that's an encouraging sight to the owners of the mega-mansions on Lake Travis whose boathouses have been sitting on dry land for a long time now.

This summer could be very wet - think 1997 when Lake Travis flooded.
