http://eng.mirax.ru/tabid/73/EntryID/3654/Default.aspx

it would have 64 floors and not 94 floors and probably 243 meters high !!

Mirax has strong financial problems...

That's too bad if true. Barring any rebound or change, looks like the Shard in London will hold the title for Europe's tallest. 'W00t' for the City, 'tear' for Moscow.

If it is finished before the mercury tower that is. Then of cause the tower is still built to support 94 floors so the 64 floors will probably just be a temporary solution until the economy permit the finalization of the building.

Considering the height decrease, I wonder how they're gonna finish off the central concrete pillar/spire.

Not feeling sad over the height decrease at all. Any building resorting to an overly tall spire to gain ranking on the world's tallest list is not "deserving" in my opinion.

I don't think that that was ever the idea though. Whatever (if any) function it was supposed to serve was unlikely have been meant to get it a ranking
on a world's tallest list. It would neither have been THE tallest nor on any list for very long anyway. It seems to me that the spire was probably an aesthetic choice more than anything else. To simply rank means nothing unless you've got the number one spot in whatever column you want to get filed under where skyscrapers are concerned.

plus when this tower was proposed, Russia Tower was planning on being taller anyways, and many more towers since then have been canceled that might've pushed this out of the way if they had been built.

Moscow skyscraper to be completed

13:3622/03/2010
Alfa Bank is to invest around $240 million in Mirax Group to continue construction of a Moscow skyscraper, planed as one of the world's tallest buildings, a Russian business daily said on Monday.

"The conditions are being agreed with Mirax at the moment. Alfa Bank will be the main creditor, but other banks are not excluded from the project," Alfa Bank development director Maxim Pershin told Komersant.

The tower is part of the Moscow City development in the west of Moscow. The project was delayed by four years because of the financial crisis and is now expected to be completed after 2016. Mirax Group chief Sergei Polonsky previously announced plans to reduce the height of the skyscraper, which is planned at 612.2 meters (2,009 ft) because of insufficient funding. However, the $240 million investment is enough to accomplish the initial ambitious plan.

Mirax Group has faced serious financial difficulties during the crisis. The company's common liabilities are estimated at $550 million, including $120, 8 million of overdue debt, the newspaper said. Alpha Bank agreed to finance the project after Mirax Group paid $50 million into Alfa Bank in early March, showing its ability to cope with its financial problems.

Before the financial crisis, Mirax Group was one of the most successful development companies in Russia. It is renowned for its luxury housing and development projects in Russia and the rest of the world.
