God this is turning out awesome.

I'd like to take this opportunity to fully eat my words when I initially reacted to the rendering by saying I was slightly disappointed and was expecting something more "dynamic" from Hovey. I can already tell how totally wrong that was.

Difficult to overstate how great this tower is shaping up to to turn out. Thus far, everything about it hits the mark....

^ Yeah, the glass really has the right tint to it. I even like the color better in real life than in the renderings.

And of course, the podium of pure evil just ROCKS as I've discussed before. It reminds me a bit of the Kaaba (minus the millions of surrounding worshippers, although perhaps that may change some day?)

Millions of worshippers is a bit carried away. For a midrise/infill rental building, this is epic. But I still think that 600 North Fairbanks or Aqua are much better. And if we expand our view to one that reaches outside Chicago, there is lots that is much better than this. Still, to be clear, a million times better than anything that SCB has pooped out (including the quite spectacular Legacy).

I think the Heritage and 340 are pretty nice buildings. But I'd rather see something like this or that proposed, maybe dead, Tower of Jewel going up instead of something like 500 LSD or Hubbard place.

Why do you think it's dead? I'm trying to remain optimistic!

Funny, I should have checked this before my last post. As of May 2012 SCB is the architect for the new Jewel Project.
Sigh.

It is definitely bad to the bone.

George, your photo juxtaposes the black glass with a lush green lawn and then a just-right hue of blazing yellow autumn leaves. Even the black benches, the reddish stone, the perfectly trimmed hedge, the black SUVs ... it just seems almost choreographed. Bloody good image!

Great picture! I like imagining that traffic circle and all of Cityfront Plaza with building frontage (and possibly some streetlife). Hopefully someday soon

Optima Center's black glass

Marina City, Trump Tower, River North by YoChicago1, on Flickr

Optima Center in lower part of image. Click over to Flickr for larger versions of this image and you'll see a lot more developments / sites - all the way out to SoNo East.

Image was shot on 9/11, so not current. See more of our aerials at Flickr.
