I'm sure there's absolutely no coincidence of Ukraine being the highest-ranked team not in the World Cup. Just a coincidence.
For me, its a mix of current political situation and personal experience. The fact that I was born in Odessa doesn't help.

I'll just be pulling for exciting football!

It was just an odd news coincidence given how high Ukraine is ranked in the world. But then, getting through Europe is tough, there are so many good teams. It's why matches against the European section of FIFA get you more points than other sections.

And it begins! OMG own goal by Brazil then they score the equalizer. I was NOT expecting that.

Brazil 1 - 1 Croatia at halftime.

And Brazil win because of a RIDICULOUS decision by the referee.

Hey now, Brazil rocks.

They beat Croatia 3-1 and scored every goal in the match.

It was a horrendous call but I still think they would have pulled it off.

I was thinking the same thing "Wow, biased referee! Brazil shouldn't be winning right now" but then they scored at the end. Neymar being Neymar

Because Croatia opened up the game. The goal don't happen with a 1-1 result.

They still scored. If we go by that logic then Brazil would've crumbled after scoring an own goal on their net.

^No, Brazil pretty much owned play for the most part. Croatia played aggressive defense like they needed to and it worked for the first half. It was a terrible call but when fouls were 1-8 at one point and shots 3-10 it didn't overly surprise me considering a lot of the heavier attacks were directed at Neymar.

It may have been a different game if Croatia's best strike wasn't sittting out with a previous suspension, but it's football and one game is all you get. All in all a pretty entertaining match.

Can't wait to see Mexico-Cameroon, Netherlands-Spain, and Australia-Chile today.

Not sure if that was directed at me, but I don't disagree with anything you said.

More just in general. Sure the goal opened up Croatia for the third which wouldn't have happened, but play for the most part indicated the score irrespective of the poor call. If it had been the other way and Croatia got a cheap call for the 2-1 goal it would have been a much worse day for the referee (even if the World Cup was in a neutral country.)

Football can be a disheatenting game because so much rides on so few goals. I think that's what I like about it. It ebbs and flows like hockey and goals are even more critical.

Since they named my son's under-five community soccer teams after World Cup countries I will also say GO MEXICO!

Mexico beats Cameroon 1-0. The only goal was scored by Brazil.

Congrats, MexiQuebecois!

Thanks!

Your phrase is confusing because you're talking about two different games there. lol.

And OMG Spain completely crumbled. They got completely destroyed

Final score:

Netherlands 5 - 1 Spain

Unbelievable finishing by Netherlands. They buried their chances.

After all this excitement if Chile-Australia isn't a let down I'll be shocked.

If the rest of the days are half as entertaining as today it will be an unbelievable tournament.
