I’ve noticed that a few older office buildings have started to add cycle storage and other infrastructure into underused areas. The really big change is going to be from new developments such as the u/c 22 Bishopsgate which has 1,700 secure cycle spaces, a workshop, bike hire and ample changing facilities.
A really fascinating aspect of the 22 Bishopsgate project is the implementation of an off-site consolidation delivery centre outside of Central London. Deliveries would be made to this site, with the final few miles traversed by electric vehicles. This leads to a step-change in the reduction of wasteful vehicle movements around the tower (reducing congestion and potential accidents), as well as more space for cycle parking and retail (large loading bays become redundant). Rival developers of other nearby projects also want to join in on this idea, and the Corporation of London sees it as a way to realistically close off entire roads to automobile traffic.
