Oh wow that's awesome to hear. Thank you! Wonder what company(ies) or institutions will set up in that building.

It's the new HQ for 4.0 Schools. I think they'll be the primary tenant, but might lease out space to other educational startups.

Great info -- thank you.

I can't imagine 4.0 Schools taking up the whole building though unless they turn it into a school! I don't think the company has more than a couple dozen people in New Orleans currently housed in the IP building, so that wouldn't take up a whole floor in 1009 Camp St.

615 Carondelet

According to CityBusiness, Domain officially bought the old City Hall Annex 546 Carondelet. The article says an 11k parking lot is included in the deal, which based on the sq. ft. I assume is the lot directly across from the Ace Hotel.

I hope this means in the somewhat near future we can expect another big parking lot to be disappearing into development!!

No, the one across Carondelet Street. The Poydras lot is owned by the Federal Reserve.

I wish we could get the fed reserve to move to another spot maybe over by the post office on girod .. i feel like theres so much security around those things it really kills the vibe around there . Id like the feds to sell that parking lot on st charles and girod too ...such a great spot for something better that surface parking

546 is going to become an ace hotel brand called American Trade ... if domain got control of the lot across the street then they really need to go ahead and buy the scottish rite complex next door too ... they could make a really neat trifecta of hotels right there

It makes sense for Carnival to shift capacity to short cruises, since Norwegian and Royal Caribbean most do 7 day and longer cruises. Still, their capacity will probably be flat with gains coming from the other lines.

There was an intriguing hint at the end of an email this morning from Tulane's President:

Not long after your return from Thanksgiving break, there will be a big announcement that is going to make all of us even more grateful. I am talking a historic, big screen, live stream, cheerleaders and dancing team announcement. I really can’t say any more right now. But something BIG is coming…
I have no clue what it could be apart from maybe a huge donation, but what's good for the school is good for the city.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Mayor Landrieu, Aviation Board to Celebrate Airport North Terminal Project Construction Milestone

NOVEMBER 16, 2017
NEW ORLEANS—Tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, local elected officials and the New Orleans Aviation Board (NOAB) will join hundreds of construction workers at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) North Terminal construction site for a “topping out” celebration as the highest steel beam is placed atop the new structure. To commemorate this major construction milestone, City officials and construction workers will sign the beam before it is set in place.

Announced in April 2013, the new North Terminal is currently under construction on the north side of the existing Airport property, creating thousands of new construction jobs and significant opportunities for local businesses and disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs) in the region. In total, the approximately 972,000 square-foot terminal will feature 35 gates, a 2,190-car parking garage, a central utility plant and a ground transportation staging area. Portions of the existing facility, including the parking garages, will also be repurposed and used as part of the new airport complex.

The upgrade to a newer and larger ship on 4/5 night cruises by Carnival is a good thing. However, it's a pretty big downgrade on the 7-night voyages.

Also not reported, Royal Caribbean will only be sailing 12 cruises out of NOLA next year as opposed to the 18 they were going to sail. The ship is leaving early for Galveston.

Galveston is killing us in the cruise department, folks.

Norwegian has upped its game big time with the introduction of the Breakaway. That's really the only the genuinely good news for the port's cruise business in quite a few years.

Mayor Landrieu, Aviation Board, 750 Workers Celebrate New Airport Construction Milestone
NOVEMBER 17, 2017
Louis Armstrong Airport North Terminal Project Reaches New High

1

NEW ORLEANS– Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, the New Orleans Aviation Board and local elected officials joined nearly 750 workers as the highest steel beam was placed on the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport’s (MSY) new North Terminal site, marking a major milestone for the $993.7 million project. The “topping out” ceremony is a centuries old tradition marking the installation of the highest part of a structure. The beam was signed by all of the nearly 750 workers on-site as well as local officials and airport employees.

To view the North Terminal’s progress, click here external link.

“It was an honor to join the construction crew today as we marked this major construction milestone for the North Terminal project,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “Through this project, we are delivering on our commitment to ensure that the people of New Orleans rebuild New Orleans. A diverse workforce is hard at work building this new terminal, and I am proud to see the progress we are making.”

The beam placed today is the highest of approximately 34,000 pieces of structural steel that make up the terminal building. Before being installed, the beam was adorned with the American flag and an evergreen tree for good luck and prosperity for the future occupants of the building.

Other project milestones already achieved include:

Placing an estimated 1.7 million cubic yards of surcharge material
Installing nearly 16.1 million linear feet of wick drains
Installing all 7,520 pilings needed to support the terminal, concourses, central utility plant, parking garage, and elevated roadway
2

Chairwoman for the New Orleans Aviation Board Cheryl Teamer said, “This is a monumental project for the state and region that we are excited to celebrate today alongside the many construction workers who have worked to get the project to this stage. This project has afforded opportunities to a multitude of local businesses and DBEs and has created new jobs for people throughout the region. We are excited to keep this project moving and look forward to having a new terminal in 2019.”

Director of Aviation for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport Kevin Dolliole said, “This is an exciting project milestone that celebrates the dedication of all the workers that have had a hand in this project. The new terminal will be a major part of New Orleans for decades to come and is an important piece of infrastructure that will be more than just a building; it will be the new gateway to New Orleans and the Gulf South region.”

Announced in April 2013, the new North Terminal is currently under construction on the north side of the existing Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) property, creating thousands of new construction jobs and significant opportunities for local businesses and disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs) in the region. In total, the approximately 972,000 square-foot terminal will feature three concourses, 35 gates, and a 2,190-car parking garage. It will also feature modern passenger conveniences like an in-line baggage system and a consolidated checkpoint. The new North Terminal is set to open in February 2019.

Based on an economic impact study by Timothy Ryan, Ph.D., after the new terminal is completed, MSY will support more than 64,000 jobs, $6.4 billion in local spending, and $2.4 billion in local earnings. The airport’s economic impact will increase approximately 20 percent in the next six years.

Tennis: I still am impressed with your use of lighting on your house. Impressive! Not every designer or architect takes the time to make after dark the best views of a building.

Everyone: What is Galveston doing to beat New Orleans in the cruising market? I would hope that before- and after the cruise hotels and atmosphere would make New Orleans the top port.

Airport

Landrieu tweeted from the airport topping out ceremony, and it revealed that one of the concourses is far enough along that they're cladding it in glass already. I knew roofing had been going on, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see the outside of the airport might really come together in the next couple of months.
