Shorewood Tower (Vancouver WA)

Quote:
This 18-story, 178,000 square-foot luxury condominium tower is located along the historic Columbia River Gorge in the Pacific Northwest. The 275-foot building affords views down the Gorge with Mt. Hood in the background, provides panoramic views of Portland and Vancouver's downtown areas and will offer a peek at Mt. St. Helen's from the upper floors. Eleven unique unit plans range from 800 to 75000 square feet. Each floor plate is broken into three sections to allow for dramatic interiors.
Our landmark site demanded a landmark design response. The conceptual design for this project evolved through our consideration of the totem pole as representing a true Northwest style. A brave sentinel stands guard over the Gorge with a large feathered headdress and five-story breastplate, providing assurance of a safe journey for all who pass. The east elevation features the interpretation of a Native American maiden, wife of the sentinel, who scans the fertile valleys of Central Washington A tall, lanky woodsman in the form of a vertical tower element peers out over the gorge, with Mt. Hood beyond, keeping watchful eye over the area's natural resources and beauty. Together they offer strength, comfort and prosperity.

The ODS tower was originally a tower designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and it was stunning, elegant and would have been beautifully executed had it been built. ODS actually is a poor mans attempt at the original KPF tower...has a few similar gestures although it's execution is dreadful.

Cascadian Tower - Sienna Architects - 1000 NE Grand Avenue - Lloyd District

The shorter phase 1 part of the project (Cascadian Court) was built, but the second phase tower on the Western half of the block was scrapped due to the Court's low sales... Now Joe Weston has proposed the 325' Cosmopolitan Tower for this site currently owned by the PDC. The new tower's forum: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=129731

Seeing the Sienna tower reminded me of the Allegro...seems like this is now destined for the unbuilt category. Last I heard PDC was terminating their development agreement with M David Paul..unless anyone here has other news?

I bet if you look at many of the recent towers that never went up, one common factor in all of them would be the PDC.

I think the Morrison Tower couldn't secure a major tenant(s)....The present tower came about because of the interest of ODS....if my memory is still working.

Makes me sad! Love that first tower, reminds me of a spaceship. The Morrison would also have been nice, but oh well.....And damn, the Cascadian would have added sooo much to the Lloyd district. Let's hope the Manhattan makes it. Fingers crossed everybody.

Does anybody know anything about the tower that was being discussed a few months back where the parking garage is just a block west of PAW? I've been absent awhile and inquiring minds want to know! ; )

I would like to understand your apparent negative attitude towards the PDC. I know there have been recent problems (I'm probably not up to speed on them all) but over the last 50 years the PDC has produced some pretty significant projects for Portland:

Pioneer Courthouse Square
Eastbank Esplanade
Portland State University's Urban Plaza
Oregon Convention Center
Willamette Industrial District
Waterfront Park
Union Station
Pioneer Place
Walnut Park
South Waterfront District
RiverPlace
Pioneer Place

The list could go on for quiet a while, but I think you get my point.

So please, help me better understand what drives you to be so agianst the PDC.

Thank you.

It's a damn shame the Cascadian tower was never built. Why was this project canceled?

I wish this project would revive from the ashes

It has been. It's the Cosmopolitan (?) by Joe Weston. Thru design review but on hold until market conditions improve.

Don't forget about the Delano. It was a 22 story tower that was supposed to go up behind the Roosavelt condos at the north end of the South Park Blocks. The building itself was ok I suppose, but I love seeing more people moving into the West End (or whatever they're calling this part of town today)

Unbuilt projects

In another thread, Mark asked about the storage facility that was supposed to be built near the Ross Island bridge. There are actually several projects that seem to have fallen off the radar. If you know anything about their status, chime in!

- 14th and Everett - Former M&F warehouse, G-E were going to remodel into offices
- Cornelius (?) Hotel - the one above the P:ear gallery, was going to be turned into a business hotel - ?
- 100 NE Multnomah - 19-story office tower next to I-5 on Holladay.
- Block 49 in SOWA (actually, I think we know what happened there)
