I like the Grand Lisboa...it does exactly what it should be...centerpiece of a garish, over-the-top tourist trap. Just like pretty much everything along the Vegas strip.

It seriously is the most retarded building in Houston. Its soo thin and ugly. The windows are what kills it or the lack thereof. They are way too few and far between, plus, its banana colored, wtf.

This sticks out as one of the most hideous buildings recently built, Chicagos Eleysian.

What were they thinking with that top?

huh? Would you have rather them left all of the mechanical equipment exposed? The Elysian is a pretty good design at the very least.

The original design had a much better looking roof and they completely redesigned the thing at the very last second. The roof looks like a damned shriners cap.

The Las Vegas "World Market Center" (whatever that is). If it didn't have a sign you'd think it was a prison.

Apart from its hat, I actually quite like the Elysian. IMO, it fits in well with Chicago's skyline. And for a modern attempt at art deco, it looks pretty well done. A lot better than Toronto's "The Uptown".

Interesting....context:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_M...nter_Las_Vegas I had no idea there were more of these types of buildings aside from Merchandise Mart in Chicago?

I like WMC, too, and don't think it looks like a prison at all, particularly in person. I must have terrible tastes.

The crack stacks of Minneapolis are dammed ugly. I've seen them in the flesh. Nasty.

Can't forget the Kaden tower.

I kind of like the endless monotonous towers of HK housing projects. Somehow, they are far cleaner than the commieblocks of Eastern Europe (or Canada, for that matter: Ontario is legendary in its love of the concrete slab).

^^^ Is it bad that I actually kinda like those buildings? Especially the absurdly long one in Moscow. Buildings like that are OK with me in limited quantities or if entire cities are built out of them, but having a high mix of them is terrible.

Yeah its really not that bad. My main gripe is that it feels needlessly vertical and huge. I think it would have done better if it was built in 4-6 story buildings (instead of 16 stories) and had elements of Tivoli Village incorporated into its design, like offices, restaurants, shopping and maybe residential.

Someone please tell this morons that the building they are calling the "plywood palace" is not the John Hancock Center in Chicago. I believe that is the John Hancock Building in Boston.
