I don't mean to pile on, but that is just depressing. Hopefully at least the interior renovations make for a nice public space but... nothing about that exterior makes me want to go inside to find out.

It could look so much better with some minor tweaks. A dark grey cladding. Thicker protruding window frames. Bright coloured glass film.
Not so minor, Larger windows or more glass to cladding would be better too.

It looks like a cheap homage to a stealth warship.

What did this look like before? Now it looks bland was it bad before this? Hopefully it's not like a few of the reclads in Toronto's core that took buildings with distinctive looks and now has turned them into lookalikes. These two buildings have been ruined IMO. Especially the one in the Centre.

The cladding is being taken off our very first skyscraper. It can't be worse than it looked before, whatever they do. Pic via jeddy1989:

When this was first proposed years ago, I emailed the company to ask would they fake windows on the wall side (when it was built, the City's intention was to replace all of Water Street with modern buildings, so it was built with a blank side to allow another building to be constructed right next to it). At that time they said no, but... here's hoping.

What about a giant piece of public art? We are seeing a lot more of that in Edmonton on blank faces of buildings. But it needs the direction, support and often funding from a higher level.

God no, don't wish that on us. Such a prominent mural would require public consensus. It'll end up like the garbage cans out around the bay...

Lmao yikes. I mean it can be done tastefully quite easily, Calgary just did about a dozen multi-story murals throughout the Beltline and downtown last year. I think the tallest is about as high as that building. It's not the best of them, but it is still beautiful...

And another beauty...

And a couple more, just to show what can be done on the ugliest of multi-storey buildings...

Roger's Tower looked better with the black spandrels. It gave it a nice contrast. Now it's just too much white (assuming the white spandrels are the final product, and not the beige (which would be worse)).

The white is the final product, up close is a glossy white. I think once the mullions are installed it will break up the white, i think it will look fresh and sharp when it's completed, just in an awkward state right now.

The building was painted a freshened up white, they are replacing all the windows, removing the black cladding and replacing it with white, they have crews on all sides of the building doing the work.

Next up is a two storey podium refresh which will include the little book store building next door.
