It is interesting to read the reviews on tripadvisor.ca for the Homewood Suites that just recently opened (May 2014). Work is progressing quickly on all the retail additions on Brunswick Street. Cladding starting on the restaurant block. The top of that building is also going to be redone to match the additions.

What a difference in the last picture compared to before. I like the urban canyon.

An improvement, but still not a street you want to spend any time on. That red brick building in the last photo doesn't engage the street at all. I'm surprised they still approve stuff like that in a downtown.

It lacks warmth for sure but let's see how it develops as the trees grow and bit and businesses liven up the street.
It is a VAST improvement on what came before. V.A.S.T. The whole Scotia Square area is in need of work and this is a good start in knitting that corner to the north end.
Is there no way to preserve the Chateau Halifax and two earlier Duke and Brunswick towers and just blow-up-real-good that Cogswell steel and aluminum fart....the bury the parking garage. Just a fantasy but it would allow the Chateau hotel to be on an actual street corner. And another spot for something with more street action where the Fart used to stand.

Visited home last week and walked by here.

Should it be a cause for concern that all these storefronts were completed late last year, look fine, and yet it seems absolutely no businesses have moved in yet? Not even a 'coming soon' sign.

Brunswick St is not exactly a commercial corridor. The bike lane removing parking on-street doesn't help much.

Is that true? I thought that the bike lanes were outside the parking area, i.e. cars parked next to the curb, then a bike lane, then the street.

Last time I drove by I was so busy trying to avoid broken pavement and potholes I didn't have time to notice the buildings and parking arrangements. I think it's time the city paved some of the downtown streets that it wants people to flock to. I can't imagine what tourists are thinking when they drive out of the hotel parking area...

Yeah, Brunswick has on-street parking and bike lanes. They run next to each other.

I notice that all the leasing signage for the east side of the street is done in the colours of a certain large drugstore chain. I wonder who they're hoping to have as a tenant...
