Some exciting offensive talent on display at both ends in the Vancouver/Vegas game last night. Tyler Wong looked great.

Feels good to be back.

Should be an exciting week in Calgary where it sounds like Wednesday will be the day a new arena is announced.

????

There's absolutely no way an arena deal gets announced this week, or in the next month for that matter while the civic election campaign is happening. No politician in their right mind would touch this issue until after the election and I'm not sure the current council even has the authority to vote on a new deal even if there was one.

Whilst not a deal - I thought I read this morning that the Flames are announcing their plans for the arena this week.

Flames are going to release their proposal after the city released theirs. Apparently the Flames will release the design with it though, should be interesting to see as CalgaryNEXT was a POS.

Of course it makes perfect sense for the owners to release images (sure to be changed, and perhaps dramatically, once the finished product is released) prior to the election. It's a sneaky-smart move designed to appeal to the emotions of the public.

Look at this beautiful shiny new arena, we the generous and benevolent owners of the Flames would happily bestow upon the city of Calgary. And all it would require from each resident of Calgary is the price of 1 small cup of coffee a month for the next 25 years...so barely anything! All for the privilege of watching Calgary participate in the best hockey league in the world for the next 35 years in a state-of-the-art arena!

But the big bad mayor and his cronies would rather you not have this new toy. You know what to do come election day!

I hope the Stampeders aren't left out in the cold in this. Any possibility that CSEC/City of Calgary/UofC can come up with some kind of plan, even if it's a ~$100m reno instead of a replacement, would be great.

GO OILERS GO! x 2!

So many people were talking about how impressive this area is becoming while walking to Rogers last night. Great to see the jerseys Downtown again!

I'm voting for Nenshi, my tax dollars are better spent elsewhere.

You give CSEC far too much credit in regards to their presentation skills.

I love that they are putting all the old neon signs on that building but I always thought it was an old warehouse structure. What a horrible building. Is there anyway the ground floor can be converted for bars and restaurants?

It is a Telus infra-bunker... this is the highest and best use.

Like the $300 million Neshi spent on the airport tunnel to nowhere, when there is perfectly good access 1 km north on Country Hills Blvd? Or the $250 million on the new library, just what Calgary needed in the digital age another 240,000 sq. ft. of premium space in the downtown. I wouldn't be surprised if Nenshi does an about face after the election and finds some creative financing for a new arena, its what happened in other cities, and Nenshi loves to spend money.

Taxpayers have borne between 50 per cent and 100 per cent of the cost of recently built or refurbished arenas and stadiums in Edmonton (Rogers Place), Regina (Mosaic Stadium), Winnipeg (Investors Group Field), Toronto (BMO Field), Hamilton (Tim Hortons Field), Ottawa (TD Place) and Quebec City (Videotron Centre).
From 2000-15, privately-owned sports facilities cost U.S. taxpayers $12-billion (U.S.). That includes losses to the U.S. Treasury from tax-free federal bonds, often used to finance the projects.

Responded in the arena thread, lets keep this to what happens on the ice.

Does anybody care about the Habs anymore, or are all the fans now Nashville supporters?
They can't score, Swiss Cheese goaltending...might as well tank this one and move the team to QC...*sarcasm*
