allegro died a fairly public death; i'm pretty sure articles about it were posted here, somewhere. too bad, i liked that building and that block could definitely use one like it.

does anyone remember 'the seven'? a - you guessed it - *seven* story building to be built just south of sony only on 16th and flanders. it was announced a couple years ago and then... nothing.

oh, another one i just thought of - the ultracontroversial 5-story building to be built at 26th-27th and vaughn on the site of the elysium apts. haven't heard anything about it in a very long time. i'm sure it's dead too, though, given the economy.

There was the 1100 Columbia tower (whatever the number was) a modest office tower next to Koin Tower. It was so modest it should have been built.

Then there is the Portland storage towers

^^^ Yeah, and the fire station move that was canceled by Potter and Adams. Would have opened up that important block for residential development.

Ouch, this is starting to hurt.

ok, this is fun to name all these canceled projects, but my point in starting this thread was to clarify what happened - if anything - to some projects that were under way, or about to be under way and then just dropped off the radar. we know exactly what happened to the fire station and oak tower; my intent wasn't to bother with projects like that. so - does anyone know what the status is on those projects i named at the top?

The Pearl Family Housing... looks like it's proposed for the vacant block across from the Encore? I wonder how current that is...

The fact that it is designed by Sera is a red flag in terms of likely architectural mediocrity (or worse), but it does look like some nice additional residential density, particularly if it's designed for families and is affordable.

totally different location though. this one's in the little triangle between the encore, ziba, and the train station. the one you've linked to is up on raleigh and 14th.

as well that one is designed by Ankrom.

i bet half the projects registered for the LBC are dead or will never be built...and the ones that are being built or built are very small.

you know, I haven't paid much attention to this at all, and it looks like I haven't missed much in 1.5years.

Strange thing was I thought this was going in the Pearl, and it turns out, this is going to go right out side my window. Needless to say, I've started paying attention.

That 7/8ths block that it would occupy is a disaster and it would get rid of more surface parking. I sure feel for the people in that apartment unit though. Renovations, Max Line, Farmers Market parking on the weekends, PSU rec center, cyan construction. They've been basically in the thick of activity for 3 years now.

I have a friend that lives over near the Safeway downtown and it has basically been 7 years of construction for him, at least...I remember a point where it seemed like every time a building was finally finishing, there was a new one starting up in his part of downtown.

I am guessing there is a lot of feet dragging going on with this project right now with the shape of the economy and I am sure that is giving the architects plenty of time to make sure all of their numbers are right and that they are getting the most out of this building that they can.

100 Columbia.

This would have distracted a bit from the god awful Marriott.

A bit off topic, and gratuitous, but I'm so $%^&ing glad Randy $%^&ing Leonard is long gone. In his defense, at least he saved us from the oversized billboards plaguing our city three years ago, and also made sure we didn't have a warm place to sit when eating from pad thai from a cart.

Yep, they only got through the first one when they realized they couldn't sell these off as condos and went for plan B which was only building the one tower and turn it into rentals. You can also see how they changed the facade of the building half way through for cheaper looking materials.
