the obvious (but possibly incorrect) answer would be that because millenium has perimeter moment frames there are significant time impacts to the forming. if they downturned them (unlikely) it would be an even greater impact. one rincon has no perimeter moment frames...

Others have said that the lower levels always take longer to rise, which would explain why Intercontinental and One Rincon took so long to get to where they are now. I would say that they should finish the lower levels by around March or so. After that, we may see a rate of floors at or closer to One Rincon. I believe that Millenium is slated for a 2008 completion, so it appears that they are on schedule despite the slow progress. I would think early 2008 because work on the Transbay Terminal is suppose to start next year as well, and Millenium has been called a landmark for the Transbay Redevelopment Project. Wouldnt make much sense for it to be a landmark while still under construction. Either way, the way the renderings present it, it is definetly worth the wait for this.

My apologies in advance for ruining such a beautiful rendering, but for the sake of progress ...

Update from Webcor site

I hope this means it will start rising faster:

UPDATE

January 2007

TOWER

Webcor Concrete Group has worked through the learning curve for the first “out-rigger” floor and is now starting into what would be considered a typical concrete deck and core wall cycle. An “out-rigger” is a cross-brace (brace-frame) which is used to damp lateral forces imposed on the building. MEPS “rough in” began after the first of the year and the Curtain-wall Subcontractor started their scope work around the middle of the month. The first bottom jump of the tower crane will happen on the last weekend of the month.

MID-RISE

The temporary trestle was completed at the beginning of the month. The Shoring Subcontractor’s 777 Crane (Not the Cat Haul Truck) was mobilized and walked to the end of the trestle. The first of three levels of whalers and cross bracing has been installed and the second level is expected to begin toward the end of the month.

Some pictures from Webcor (I think our pictures are better ):
... Also, the title of the thread needs to be changed to reflect that it is in fact 60 floors and not just 58.

I don't get it

Is this tower going to be blue, silver, green, or teal? It seems every new rendering shows a different color

Another two weeks, another floor - at least the crane has been raised.
At this rate, we only have 100 weeks remaining to top off!

2 years to top off a 600+ foot tower? Yeah, that's a little lengthy. I'm pretty certain the 1 floor in 2 weeks had a lot to do with the crane getting bumped up though.

Staging Glass

Just walked by the site at lunch. Looks like they are staging the glass on floors 3 and 4. Also, there are two platforms that have been hung off the north and west sides on the 7th floor. Maybe we'll see glass next week. Wish I had my camera with me today.

The good news - crews poured the 11th floor in one week's time - the fastest floor yet! I wasn't going to take pictures this week, but I couldn't resist. Also, as SFObs pointed out, you can see the glass panels stored on the third and fourth floors. Maybe we'll see a sample installed by the end of this week!

Is the odd-looking apparent curvature or lack of verticality of the lower-floor vertical columns in the front right corner of the building in this shot a lens artifact or is it real?

It's not an optical illusion, although I have no idea why that one corner was built differently. For a closer perspective, this is a picture I took about a month ago:
