It could be Epping Forest for two reasons:
- The photo appears to be taken from the north looking south (the Square Mile to the left, Barbican in the centre)
- The only Royal Forest to the north is Epping Forest (hence the name of the pub in picture #73 - 'Royal Forest')
Epping Forest stretches for quite a bit from Chingford (north London), and I'm presuming that -AX- got a train from London Liverpool Street to Chingford station. Picture 72 was taken probably about 200m from the station.
The abrubt end of urbanity into rural countryside is because London (and other UK cities) has a green belt that does not permit US-style sprawl to occur. Instead you have a shotgun spread of former-market towns that evolved into dormitory settlements connected to London via the vast rail network.
Edit: Noting -AX-'s response - note to self: press send and don't leave for ages
