The project on the previous page reminds me of Saarinen's Milwaukee War Memorial:

But the SFU quad reminds me of Tange's Hiroshima Memorial:

cino zucchi architetti: national automobile museum turin
photographer filippo poli has sent us images of the recently completed 'national automobile museum' in turin, italy. looking to become a driving force in the urban renewal of the city's southeast side, the building, designed by cino zucchi architetti with recchi engineering and proger, sees the expansion and renovation of the existing amedeo albertini-designed museum, originally constructed in 1960. at once respecting history, place and modernity, the redesign seamlessly and delicately bridges the significant components together, creating a new museum that is in line with some of europe's most successful contemporary structures.

And those projects in turn remind me of St. Catherine's College by Arne Jacobsen.

Apple plans new 'spaceship'-like campus
Apple wants to build a single, circular building to house 12,000 employees on a new green campus that will generate its own energy

By Agam Shah | IDG News Service

Apple plans to build a new campus with a circular building that looks a spaceship, big enough to house 12,000 employees. The campus, near Apple's existing headquarters in Cupertino, California, will generate its own energy.

The single office building on the new campus will look "a little like a spaceship landed," Apple CEO, Steve Jobs told the Cupertino City Council in a presentation on Tuesday.

going to be a HUGE building but still 3.1 million sqft vs. 6.5 for the pentagon.

foster + partners: 3beirut

'3beruit', foster and partners' first development in lebanon, has broken ground. housing retail and residential programs the sustainable scheme, located in beirut's central district, is informed by both the site and the culture of the city.

staggering and rectilinear, the design pays particular attention to the public realm and accessible green space, which is peppered at street level alongside pedestrian throughways. organized around promenades and plazas, the development looks to connect the historic city center to the harbor at the mediterranean sea.

^^^ Eeeew, no! why are they trying to build a high rise in this area? THe parcel is really small, so all the submittals are these skinny, tall towers. This area needs more of the MACBA scale architecutre. Something along the lines of Nouvel's tower in Westside New york on 11th ave, but smaller

Nine Bridges Country Club-Clubhouse / Shigeru Ban Architects
By: admin | June - 11 - 2011

The Nine Bridges Country Club-Clubhouse designed by Shigeru Ban Architects is a 16,000-squaremeter facility that serves a golf course. It has an underground level and three floors above grade. There is a main building, VIP lobby building, and a structure with private suites. The atrium and the upper portion of the main building include timber columns and a glass curtain wall, while the base is made of stone (random rubble masonry typical of Korea). The timber area includes the reception zone, a member’s lounge, and a party room.

Global Financial Center in Shanghai / OMA – Rem Koolhaas
By: admin | June - 16 - 2011

Shanghai is a fragmented collage of different scales and styles. The identity of the city lies in the diversity of traditional, colonial, communist, and “post-modern” architecture united only through the city’s history. The Global Financial Centre on the Bund – yet another mixed-use project among all these opposing elements – has the natural task of addressing and emphasizing all the contradicting qualities of Shanghai without compromising their benefits.

Strasbourg Cathedral / Axis Mundi
By: Lidija Grozdanic | June - 20 - 2011

Invited to submit a proposal for a new cathedral for the city of Strasbourg in France, the design team of Axis Mundi engaged in a dialogue with the city’s Gothic heritage. The 2,322 m2 building is composed of a series of unfolded arches echoing vaults of the Gothic cathedrals. The proposal features both subtle and dramatic design characteristics that together create a new and contemporary place of worship.
