Warsaw, WOW

o.k., cheesy thread title aside i do love this city. maybe it's the chaos from old world charm mixed with reconstruction after its destruction and its spirit of resistance against oppression.

my second trip there this year, this time for a little loner (one full day, two nights and a breakfast) with my wife and parents.

pics from the first trip here

Thanks so much for this thread. I would love to visit Warsaw.

The photos of the street canyons between rows of apartments give me an eerie feeling that takes me back to the movie The Pianist (Adrien Brody) which took place during the war in Warsaw. If you haven't seen the movie (2002), it's something everyone should see. If you do, look at the thread and see if you see what I mean about that eerie feeling.

Warsaw photos surprise me. I remember the first time that I came across images of the city and they weren't at all what I though they'd be. The city is pretty incredible visually.

Thanks for this tour along Warsaw.

I like Warsaw. It looks a modern and classic eastern european city. I´d like to visit it. It looks pretty.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

Thanks for these photos of my capital

Warsaw is not an easy city to understand and love or at least like. You have to know that circa 90% of it was destroyed during 39'-45'. And for next few decades it was under socialist regime, hence why there's so much ugly commieblocks (I'm not talking about those grand ones from 40's and 50's).

But then again it's still a great city and I would love to photograph it!

What would you say is the most intact large city in Poland? Or the one that suffered the least damage during the war?

Fantastic thread! Warsaw looks a bit distressed, but is obviously a very strong and resilient city. Gotta love all the "kamienices" (Art-Nouveau Polish townhouses).

Krakow, the most-popular and arguably most-attractive of the Polish cities, emerged from WW2 relatively unscathed (hence its tourist nature).
