You're off the wall. There aren't any comments that are innappropriate here.

How totally imperious. So by your own personal decree, people with opinions--other than Parisians-- are excluded from commenting on how this looks and should stay far away from the thread? In the first place, "Paris" didn't design this, an architect did. You are trying to frame comments as some impingement upon Parisians' right to build. Ridiculous.

Hey, you're the one who decided to take a personal dig at me!

Looks like they forgot to add the white flag in the rendering.

Where Hitler failed to destroy Paris, this will complete the task.

Im just surprised the socialist parisians are for this rather than against it.

I don't think its "balls" that they have. I think its just poor taste and a reflection on the post-christian / relativistic European culture.
Yep, this forum grows more inviting every day...
I actually posted this before your post but decided to delete it as it really doesn't do anything for this thread. But since you can't let it go...

Eh no...
This thread is just another of many (all actually) used to take swipes at Paris/France/Europe at this forum. Maybe you don't notice it but I do and it's getting pretty annoying.
I did nothing else then proclaim my opinion while mentioning others are free to do also.
YOU are the one attacking me personally (as if I wouldn't notice). To top it all of my fellow mod thinks it's all very funny...

I suggest we let it go now, there isn't much I have to say to either of you anyway...

ouch, that's really harsh. I think we've got some cool and beautiful things around here, and moreover, the city is diverse and coherent like any major cities in the world, it has its own mood and that mood is pretty good. come and i'll pay you a visit. hope you're not from las vegas at least to say such things
plus, it's the vision of a US "famous" architect, not a french creation, and i'm pretty sure if paris would not take it, some us cities with tiny skyline would gladdly have it (pittsburgh, KC, philly, denver, etc....).

saddly, that's possibly true... but he also performed in many chinese skyline landscapes and even in the US (houston and/or dallas if i remember correctly)... don't ask me why but some people all around the world think its creations are kind of post-futuristic and fit skylines...

back to the thread, few people seems to explain why they love it or hate it, they rather do short formal comments of love or hate - especially on the last pages.

for me it's simply too human body shaped. i like organic structure up to a certain level, or in a certain way, but here it doesn't work for me. for instance in the photo below i can't help but see a dog pet sitting its head up waiting for a tap or a sugar...

and in the following one, i feel like trying to look at my granma panties. don't ask me why but it looks like an old woman to me.

and the top hairy spire, reminds me too much the towers that have been ,through times, added antennas in a total mess at their top.

and also the bottom (podium/entrances) makes me uneasy, too much of a mess for me. i like sober and clean structures, box shaped (HK IFC or former WTC) or not (the gherkin), but i like them clean. i can hardly enjoy them otherway.

so take the render below, cut the hairy top and rearrange the bottom without those improbable curbs, you can make an enlargement, but keep it symetric, the blue cladding is nice, and the part with the apparent tubular structure partially hidden by the outer cladding is nice. that'll do it for me.

and as i stated in a previous post, i guess building such a structure significantly rise costs over a more conventionnal shape, and i think it's a waste of money. may be two towers could be built for the price of that one.

Go Paris!
I'm with you on this one.

I don't find the building pretty, but it looks very interesting. I hope it is built so I can see the final product. There is always the chance that this building could turn out horrid (I imagine creating accurate renderings for this project is difficult), but it could also turn out to be something great and unique. I love the fact that European cities often experiment more with architecture than their North American counterparts. The results aren't always successful, but when they are, they are spectacular.

Yes, for the cost of this one building they could probably put up two buildings. Actually, why not just build ten tall commie-blocks and call it a day? Sometimes cost isn't the only determining factor in designing a building (thank god).

Somehow, I get the sinking feeling this design won't be altered, considering the "statement" for unconventionality it's straining to achieve, and who the architect is.

I've read through this entire thread in light of the charge it reeks anti-French. It's hardly the theme of at least 98% of the comments. In fact, it's one of the most uproariously funny threads I've ever read! Some of you are frickin' talented. Especially the first four or so pages.

I really don't see when this thing really gets to construction, how it can currently maintain its current appearance. I actually suspect the design is going to look drastically different constructed.

I dunno...it's so freakishly hi-tech. It's wierd, but the reason i love this design so much is that it's simultainiously gruesome and stunning at the same time. Yeah, it's hella ugly...that's what makes it so appealing.

The New Renders are better, but Paris deserves so much better. The front is horribly ugly, the back is alright. This belongs in Dubai, or Asia, I really like La Défense's retro-boxy modern skyline, this will completly ruin it.

Unfortunaly for you, according most buildings approved or in construction the retro boxy skyline is over.

My thoughts exactly.
I'm not sure that LD needs more boxes though. Being contextual is not the right way of re-starting La Défense. What the business district is a rupture - not a failure, nor a mediocre copy.

Someone needs to do it. If this flies, then we can make up our minds in 2012. I am looking forward to it. Like it or not, I would love to visit Paris and stand in front of this.
