Bumped from the previous page.... Sheraton Hotel repaint

This one seems to have slowed down to a crawl.
But perhaps there's more work being done in the interior than I'm aware of.

The grand opening for Scissortail Park is this weekend, starting Friday 9-27-2019.
So naturally there has been a flurry of activity.

Activity to finish up what can be done before the opening event (note: park won't really be fully finished)
Activity to set up for the performances and other events.

Given this, social media is starting to fill up with photos of the last minute preparations.
And some select groups have been allowed to tour the site (for many months, this has been a hard-hat only area).

Let's have a look....

What a beautiful park. I love seeing cities making room for parks. God bless OKC.

Cool shot from atop the State Capitol building:

https://twitter.com/PBreninger/statu...21796549976064

The roof is being redone as part of the ongoing renovation.

You can see 3 different developments under construction in the photo.
This is easier to see if we zoom in a bit:

Halls Pizza Kitchen

I want to take you back to one of the cool renovations in Midtown.

Hall's Pizza Kitchen has become a hot spot in downtown, largely because of it's outdoor patio.
(the pizza is pretty dang good too...)

Originally, it was part of a group of buildings anchored by an old tire store - Swanson's Tire.

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=41282&page=2

Hall's Pizza Kitchen, which had been operating as a food truck, got a hold of this property and began to renovate.

Construction shots:

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=42734

Since it opened, it has flourished.
It's become quite the 'instagrammable' spot in Midtown.

This is located just southeast of Fassler Hall / Dust Bowl and the upcoming Fan Club / Okie Kush, currently in construction.

The patio has great views - one of the main attractions.

Make Ready

This is a small but useful project designed to help entrepreneurs launch new businesses.

An old auto body shop on NW 13th in Midtown was renovated into office spaces.

As of a few weeks ago, the renovation is complete.

original: https://www.okctalk.com/attachment.p...9&d=1568747417
source: https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=44929

The office spaces are small but inexpensive.
Very useful for startup companies.

At least one business is already up and running - Mira Bird.
This is an eclectic shop of artful decor and accessories.
They recently opened and have a facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/categ...0183644677514/

Reportedly, all the spaces are leased.
The owners apparently have it in mind to aquire a nearby eyesore building, demolish it, and create another (mirror) development.

The Half

American Fidelity announces name and branding for large development in north OKC.

https://www.facebook.com/thehalfokc/...12476172651449

The 52 acre complex of new development by American Fidelity at 9000 N. Broadway has been given a name.

The Half

This is signify that the development is just about halfway between downtown OKC and downtown Edmond.

Someone at OKCTalk checked it out on google maps, and, indeed, it really is located at about the halfway point.

They have a logo for this:

https://thehalfokc.com/

Basically a morph of the letter 'h' and the 1/2 symbol.
Which is a little bit goofy.
On the other hand... it's kinda cool, actually.

They announced the name a couple of weeks ago and with it a website and facebook page.
Followed by a 'launch announcement' event at the site with some speakers and press coverage.

Website images:

And it appears they have some branding goodies in store:

Here's a recent aerial of the site they posted on their facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/thehalfokc/...12476172651449

The initial development announced for this project was Flix Brewhouse:

And this has been in construction for awhile now.
Here's a recent shot:

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=43109&page=3

They also announced that Dolese Bros, a concrete supplier, would be moving their headquarters there.

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=44512&page=2

Then they announced the development of OKC's first Chicken N Pickle:

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=45173

This has not started yet.
But they filed a building permit about a week ago.
So construction should start on Chicken N Pickle fairly soon.

So those are the three developments for 'The Half' that we know about.

But more are planned.
Including: restaurants, office buildings, and a couple of hotels.
Additionally: ponds, bridges, and over one mile of pedestrian paths throughout the property.

Here are a few pics from the 'launch announcement' event:

https://www.facebook.com/thehalfokc/...02677246964675

So this will be a fun project to watch.

NW 2nd & Klein

A new live music venue and brewery is proposed at the corner of NW 2nd & Klein.

The redevelopment is being done by Pivot Project, who also handled the renovation of Sunshine Cleaners (now Stonecloud Brewery) and the OK Distillery and Brewpub, currently in construction.

The spot will contain a 500 person live music venue called 'Beer City Music Hall'.

A brewery and taproom will be located next to the music venue.
This includes plans for a restaurant and some retail space.

The taproom will have a large outdoor patio with family and dog-friendly activities available.

Current buildings:

Renderings:

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=45370

It's good to see the continued development of the old industrial area in west downtown.
Another live music venue will be welcome.

Hopefully, the Purina mill just to the north won't detract from the appeal
(those mills tend to be known for their 'odor').

The proprietors of the music venue also own the Tower Theater on 23rd street, so they have experience with this business.
Same for the brewery, as the husband and wife team who will operate this have experience with several other local breweries, including nearby Stonecloud.

This is expected to open sometime next year.

Bricktown Ballpark

Late last year, work began to replace the field with new sod.

This was finished in early spring, in time for the new season.

Now, they are planning to replace all the seating.
Expected cost is $1.7M.

I'll take that as a compliment, as Nashville has been really rocking it for several years now.

Though in all honesty, Nashville has a much denser downtown area and skyline.
OKC will likely get to that point sometime in the future -- how long, though, who can say...

Apparently so.

A number of panes were knocked out in the window washer incident back in May.
Here's an interesting photo of the top, taken a few days after the accident.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/gaedde...63618/sizes/h/

The damaged windows were boarded up quickly.

I remember at the time thinking that it would be a few weeks before they were repaired.
But that was nearly 5 months ago.
Can't believe that it's been left unfixed for this long.

Various updates...

Classen Inn Motel

Work commenced on this back in early July:

But then it seemed to stall.
Lately, the renovation has picked back up again.

The aluminum cladding is slowing working its way around the exterior.

Wheeler District Terminal Building

Apparently this will be referred to as 'Terminal Commons'.

Very cool to finally see some interior shots of this building.
Looking quite nice.

At last, the building has started construction.
This will be the first commercial building in the Wheeler District.

Omni Hotel

From across the river (at the Wheeler District):

https://deskgram.cc/p/2145262899953430367_15014385

The building is tall enough now to make an impact on the skyline.

It won't get much taller, though.
It's already at the 17th floor, which is the last (technically it will have 18 floors, as there is a basement level).
There will be a crown that will add slightly to the height.

Brasfield & Gorrie held the topping out ceremony last week.

Convention Center Parking Garage

The official groundbreaking was held today for the Convention Center parking garage.

https://twitter.com/ManhattanBuild/s...79519556259840

The garage will have 6 floors plus a basement level.
Initial capacity will be 1100 cars -- expandable to 1400.

It will service both the Convention Center and the Omni Hotel.
Construction bid went to Manhattan Construction Group.
TAP Architecture is handling the design.

Renderings:

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=44229&page=6

The exterior walls visible from the street will be covered with some kind of public art, likely using colored glass tiles.

Should be finished by late 2020, coinciding with the opening of the Convention Center and hotel.

When the BOK Tower was constructed several years ago, two adjacent parking garages were also built to service the building.

The one on the north side was to have retail on the first floor.
But nothing developed for quite awhile.

Back in December, Petroleum Club Deli -- which has been operating at Chase (now BancFirst) Tower -- announced they were opening a deli location in the north garage.

It appears that they are finally about ready to open.
Pete at OKCTalk snapped a picture of the interior space today:

The deli will take up the entire retail space on the first floor of the BOK north garage.

As far as I understand, they will keep the deli in the BancFirst tower as well.
However, it will be closed during the renovation of the tower - which may take about a year.

Convention Center

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=26179&page=193

On Monday (10-7-2019), city officials revealed the design logo for the new Oklahoma City Convention Center:

This design is quite similar to that used for the new park:

https://www.news9.com/story/38485456...issortail-park

Similar as in: a minimalistic, semi-abstract design using pastel colors.

A banner displaying the logo is now hanging out front (as pointed to by Mayor Holt).

https://twitter.com/davidfholt/statu...43962104958976

The structure is about two-thirds complete.
It's good to see more glass going in.

http://picpanzee.com/media/214755118...4339_558069632

Expected to be fully finished by late 2020.
