As repeated ad nauseum by every Londoner for the last 100 odd years.

Big Ben is the bell that chimes the hour, the clock tower which houses it is called The Clock Tower or St Stephen's Tower.

I always thought it was Big Ben. I'm still calling it that.

Do you mean The Clock Tower itself, or the Houses of Parliament as whole?

true, it would be hard to limit the list to 50. narrowing it down to 10 would be downright impossible (at least for me)

Not really. To me iconic is not something that you'd necessarilythrow on a postcard, but something that is extensively emulated and has lasting meaning for global culture.

Brooklyn and Golden Gate are really equally iconic (IMO) being that they were the first example of suspension bridges. It can go either way, but the fact that Brooklyn was built first (the first suspension bridge) and I'm a New Yorker, I opt for it.

Then you have the height for the Golden Gate........It can really go back and forth. Both are highly iconic.

I think the main tower (temple 4 or 5) at Tikal might work better, that was Mayan. The Temple of the Sun at Teotihuacan is another amazing one, and that predates the Aztecs. Both of them are certainly deserving.
