There's now a temporary "detour" path that, if you follow it, leads you to Lambton street. From there pedestrians and cyclists are directed to follow the sidewalk of Huron Church down to the Labelle intersection, crossing at the light. It looks like they'll soon divert traffic from this section to start ripping it up so they'll probably have to reroute it again.

The detour is a dead end. I tried to use it tuesday and before I got to the first street, some guy driving around in a truck started yelling at me for being in a construction zone. I don't know how long it's been like that, but I wish they would fix it.

Strange. I never had a problem when I use it. And there was no construction very near to it. Perhaps I'm thinking of a different path?

Possibly. They should mark it better at the very least.

So they've diverted Howard Ave off to the new roundabout. After the Laurier Parkway intersection it now curves off towards the roundabout. The old alignment has been truncated at a cul-de-sac just before the intersection. A new road ("Howard Ave. Connector") connects the new alignment to the old one. The new road is closed a bit further up and all traffic is diverted to the connector and back to the old alignment.

Great video! Thanks for all your hard work. I've been wanting to do something like this, but a) I'm too lazy and b) You did a much better job than I would have probably done. This is a well put together video.

As of about 5pm today, Trillium Court was about 70% demolished.

Walls are going up at Huron Church Line tunnel:

Trillium Court is now history:

I'm guessing this will be a service road:

Plopping one of those babies in an area where people have zero experience with them isn't going to be pretty. The one-laners are fine but two-lanes is a totally different ballgame. I just spent a good 15 seconds trying to figure out that damn sign.

Yeah I didn't completely get it until I looked at the rendering on the project website (weparkway.ca). Once you look at it from above it makes sense but trying to figure it out for the first time from the ground would be confusing. The only thing I don't know is who gets the right of way INSIDE the roundabout. I'm guessing the inside lane has to yield to traffic in the outside lane when it wants to exit, right?

We'll see pretty soon how it works out. I've heard they plan to open it around the end of the month. I'm guessing the demolition of the Hwy 3 flyover will soon follow.

I think so. I've driven through very busy two-lane roundabouts in Edmonton and Boston but I've always been too scared to even go into the inside lane (even though I think you're supposed to if you want to turn left).

Waterloo Region has some videos explaining how to drive in a roundabout. It is important firstly to signal your exit so that others can anticipate when you are leaving the roundabout. Second, you are not supposed to overtake other vehicles in the roundabout and you are supposed to make way for people exiting from the middle lane. Note: you are supposed to do these things, but most people don't bother so it becomes a bit of a clusterfuck instead.

I actually have a DVD from Waterloo Region called "How the HECK do you drive on a roundabout?"

Made me think of Dr. Steve Brule. Made me lol.

Great pics BTW!
