The more I look at it, the more I wonder how they figure this piece of crap is worth a billion dollars.

The old design reminded me too much of the original design for Bankers Hall, which I thought looked dated twenty years ago.

As of this morning, the old Penny Lane mall is closed. Demolition will start soon...

Its like a choice between dumb and dumber, except at $1B, its more like a choice between really dumb and really dumber. It will be a very unfortunate addition to the Calgary skyline and if I were a Calgarian, I would be really pissed off. Thank heaven for the other more exciting projects in Calgary which are bound to incite jealousy on this forum.

Wow, it's been a while since I updated this thread. I won't post all the pics I've taken since then and now, but just the latest update.

Work has all but stopped on what now resembles a martian landscape. There have been rumours that the project may have been halted due to the Royalty Reviews. We'll see how it resumes once everything returns to business as usual. This delay pisses me off and fills me with fear. They had to tear down a fine structure to get this far, the last thing we want is for the site to remain as a crater until the next cycle. Alas, the only things occupying the site are pidgeons and magpies.

The new design is nice, but I liked the old one better.

8th Avenue Place (formerly Penny Lane Towers)

Heres a shot from tonight:

Equipment is now on site, along with a good size pile of piles for shoring. So construction will be starting anytime now.

Also, could the mods please change the title of this thread?

CALGARY | Eighth Avenue Place Towers | 51FL/211M | 41FL/166M |

And uhhh, while there isn't yet a building permit for the site, those ARE pile drivers... U/C?
