Philadelphia buildings tend to be pretty dull and disappointing at night. FMC kinda bucked this trend, unfortunately nothing in center city has so far.
The only thing I've seen that suggests something more than a glowing stick is the Comcast Christmas video show. The rendering of CTC in that appeared to have some sort of funky "warp core" or Tesla coil type fluctuations in lighting going on, but I couldn't swear to it. It didn't suggest any color changes. We'll see.

since the lantern part seems to be just the part that starts at the color change and goes up (as opposed to the entire spine, which is what I originally thought), it could end up just looking like a LED bar at the top of the west side rather than a long strip of light that could potentially do tricks like I originally thought.

What I really like about the new Comcast Technology Center is that we will have a restaurant with better views, especially considering how much growth potential the city has.

That’s what I am personally looking forward to!

Count me in the group of people who like unassuming buildings.

I don't want our skyline to look like Dallas or Shanghai.

You'll be able to see elevators climbing either side of the lantern from the art museum, west philly and beyond. To me it's obvious in the design that this thing is built to dazzle at night in an integrated and functional way unlike any other skyscraper in north america. I would have liked some of the materials to look better during the day...especially the cladding on the west side....but i think when this is finally done a lot of the sins of the day will be absolved by it's glory at night
I believe the City has to approve the exterior lighting concepts. If so, has that been made public?

I can't get a good look because of the weather, but it appears some cladding has been applied to at least the eastern facade of the bottom section of the spire. Most recent pictures from this thread don't show that yet.

Not saying it needs to be Dallas or Shanghai (though I do love the Asian cities) but it can be bright, bold, and dignified all at the same time. I’m mostly referring to the dull lights (and in some cases lack of lights) on the CC buildings that make the city look asleep at night. I’d love for CTC to be a little “animated”, but I’d settle for something that can at least be visible through a slight haze, when everything else with their 7W LEDs disappears.

Curious - how do you feel about FMC?

It's a cool lighting scheme, but in comparison to the rest of the city it sticks out waaay too much. If you are driving up 95 from the airport at night, FMC is practically the only thing visible, even more so when you're up in the air. I think the solution is to fix the lighting on the other towers, they could stand to be brighter (which has been pointed out many, many times on this forum). But I will say, having that beast of a building fully lit up is very loud at the moment.

I saw a bit of glass on the lower portion of the north side of the lantern on the way in this morning. On the way out I drove by and some of the sidewalk work along Arch is now visible through new gaps in the construction fencing.

Now that the fog/clouds have cleared up a bit, this is the best picture I can take:

I tried the webcam but it isn't working for me.

When people use the word "lantern", do they mean the entire "spire" from ground up, or only the part at the top?

Perfect for the lighting system.
This resembles the torch of the Statue of Liberty.

Hopefully the spire could be complete before Groundhog Day.

Not my pic but I'm certain that it is Girard Avenue about 200 feet from the zoo entrance.

Only the part at the top. At least part of the "ridge/spine" continuing down the West side will be actual windows. I don't know whether lighting will fill the gaps between floors.
