What’s going on?

Does anyone know what’s going on with this project. Developer won’t give me updates and my clients are wondering why there has been zero progress since digging down. No activity whatsoever. Definitely seems like it could be pushed to 2027 completion based on their progress. I heard there was a cave in from a guy I met who works with the developer but I can’t confirm.

Yesterday there was a colossal failure of the the excavation and shoring wall along the north portion of Foster Avenue at the site yesterday afternoon. There's a video circulating on Vancouver reddit. Hope everyone is okay.

Oof, maybe they were too ambitious with their construction progress.

Had to do a double take of the time stamp of that earlier comment too. Yikes, if this is the second major incident this thing is going to be massively over budget and past timelines.

They have been dumping fill non stop in the NW corner of the excavation, it's almost up to ground level in the picture I saw.

I was looking at the social media posts and website of the shotcrete company responsible for the work (won't name names here), and it sounds like they don't have experience with deep excavations. One of their posts had a fairly shallow excavation and the description said "one of the deeper excavations we've done".

Didn't see any posts/pictures of anything as deep as this current project.

The other collapse was at the bottom of the pit on a different section.

More details on how long it took to collapse.

Quote:
According to the documents, the incident began at 11 a.m. Wednesday, when a worker noticed some pebbles falling from the excavated wall.

"The worker contacted the prime contractor and the area was evacuated," the reports read, adding that the engineer for the project was called and asked to attend.

By sometime between 1:30 and 2 p.m., a crack had formed in the wall. Around the same time, crews contacted the city and FortisBC. They also closed Foster Avenue to all traffic.

The collapse occurred around 4:45 p.m., according to the reports.
