...and the digging seems to have begun. They are using an excavator with a pneumatic hammer, so it could just be fuel tank removal under the frozen ground, or could it be more?

Major demolition began this morning on the gas station and garage structure, and by the end of the day it is half gone.

A little simpler than demolishing the Ogilvy I suspect.

Interesting news about Beechwood Ave., including word that Claude Lauzon has sold some property to Domicile.

The Kavanaugh: starting soon, hopefully

Sharleen Tattersfield, Manor Park Chronicle
May/June 2013

With spring's arrival, sales activity for The Kavanaugh, Domicile's condo development at 222 Beechwood Ave., has picked up says David Chick, Senior Vice President. Since sales began in May 2012, Domicile's team has designed some new bedroom layouts by combining three smaller units into two-bedroom condos that are large, but not too large. "There's been a really great reception to the new layouts," says David.

With occupancy estimated for summer through fall 2014, Domicile is keen to start building. The former garage was levelled and the site cleared in March. Once the model suite sales centre, currently situated facing Marquette Ave., can be moved to a new location, site excavation and demolition of two smaller homes on Joliette and Marquette avenues, adjacent to 222 Beechwood Ave., could begin and the project would be underway.

However, at press time, plans to move the sales centre are on hold awaiting clearances from the City. In an interview with the Chronicle, David was pleased that Domicile had reached an agreement to purchase a site further west at 84-86 Beechwood Ave. It was anticipated that once demolition and building permits were issued, it would be a fairly straightforward move down the road (on a quiet Sunday morning to minimize traffic congestion). The sales centre would be slipped into place positioning it into the same orientation as it currently sits at the corner of Beechwood and Marquette avenues - perhaps, said David, one small step towards cleaning up and beautifying Beechwood Ave.

"Everyone is primed and ready to go. We're a month or so later than we wanted to be." Finding a new Beechwood-area home for the centre has been challenging. David remains optimistic that problems will be solved; the centre must be moved before construction can begin - hopefully before too long.

A week ago or so the two buildings on the newly acquired properties at 84-86 Beechwood were completely enveloped in orange tarps, then a few days later the tarps were gone, as was the siding on 86 Beechwood. Asbestos removal maybe? Yesterday I noticed that 86 Beechwood has been demolished, and is now just a pile of rubble. 84 Beechwood is next. This stretch of the street already looks better!

Sounds like asbestos or mould abatement for sure.

Were they carting out yellow trash bags?

We did it! We’ve reached our pre-sales condition at The Kavanaugh. In the coming weeks we will relocate The Kavanaugh Sales Centre and begin demoing the buildings. All you constructions lovers stay tuned; you won’t want to miss all the action.

We would like to take this time to thank Rupert Kavanaugh and his family for their steadfast dedication to Beechwood Village and the surrounding communities. Your business will be greatly missed throughout the neighbourhood.

As an FYI, Kavanaugh garage can now be found at 145 Marier Ave. Just a few blocks away. No gas anymore. Just the repairs.

And a lot of sidewalk-blocking clutter.

I noticed a late-night OC Transpo detour go up last night for Beechwood Avenue "due to a building move"

Figured it had to be this

I woke up this morning and it had only moved approx 2 metres. It hasn't even left the parking lot yet. Maybe there was a problem or they were just doing some tests?

And as of this evening the wheel sets had been mounted beneath the I-beams and it looked like it was ready to roll. It has to go this weekend, as they are planning to be open in the new location next weekend:

Quote:
On Monday, June 17th we are closing our doors at 222 Beechwood Avenue for a few weeks. Not to worry, we have no plans of dismantling our beautiful models, we’re simply securing them to a flat bed truck and moving a few blocks down. Next time you visit us, we will be in our new location at 84/86 Beechwood. We are scheduled to reopen on Saturday, July 6th at noon.

i spoke with a few people thursday night and it was supposed to go that night, it was not a practice or anything of that sort..

i was there till about 1am and i watched the building move 3 times. each time it went about 2 feet quickly followed by people running under the building to look at something..

the thursday closure of beechwood was listed on the city of ottawa road closure database so it should be pretty easy to figure out when the next attempt is.

There was a flatbed truck on site this morning delivering several additional wheel sets. Maybe they underestimated the weight of this thing?

The sales centre was a lot heavier than they estimated. That's why they're adding extra support.

Estimated??

Is it not built and constructed already?

This is not an estimate - this is a calculation based on known materials and quantities.

ooops.
