I've seen a lot worse than this design. As in 4 Times Square.

Looks to be all of 1100 feet going by 4 WTC...

Yeah, something in the 1,050' - 1,100' range sounds about right. I just hope they use high quality materials so it won't look cheap.

The design doesn't look THAT bad.

I'm glad they reduced the height. Should compliment the WTC well.

Updated renderings. Height looks about 1,000'.

Those 2 renders were also updated.

That last rendering isn't terrible. I think it will depend a lot on the quality and color of the exterior and the glass.

^^^ Agreed, its not that bad, curved glass will give it a nice look but I don't like the bare concrete wall.

The concrete gives it an interesting early 60's vibe which is rather unique in NYC. Glad they got rid of the roof taper- that looked awful. Not earth-shattering, but works for me.

Has anyone else pointed out that the non-glass aspects of the design looks like a giant 'I-beam' sticking out of the ground?

It seems like a design that would have been part of the WTC complex, if they were going for a very literal interpretation. The trees seem like another way to tie it into the memorial as well. Im not sure how I feel about it yet, though it ties 125 Greenwich to the site WTC site a bit more.

Seriously, that's it? Another steaming pile of crap from Rafael Viñoly. Some of his work is good, but most of it shares one common theme, awkward.

It's frustrating to see all this crap architecture going up around the WTC (99 Washington, The W hotel, Courtyard Marriott, 5 Beekman), and unfortunately this will fit right in. I will say there's a part of me that hopes this comes out way better than anticipated, but I'm having a hard time defending that awful exposed concrete shaft. The use of greenery is cool, I guess.

Had this design been proposed in a more obscure part of town, I'd be fine with it, but it's going to be looming over the Memorial, at least try and be more inspired!

Just a recap:

New renderings have surfaced for Michael Shvo, Howard Lorber’s New Valley and Bizzi & Partners’ mixed-use supertall at 125 Greenwich Street. The Rafael Viñoly-designed building will house 275 residential units, as well as 15,000 sf of amenities over three floors and 16,000 sf of retail space. According to the most
recent filings, the building's height will be 841 feet--although the new renderings suggest that it might ultimately be taller than the 977-foot-tall 4 World Trade Center, at nearby 150 Greenwich Street.

This has to be one of the longest foundation processes I've witnessed. It's been at least 16-18 months. Did 1WTC even take that long?

The one thing missing from all of these renders is 50 West St and it's similarly curved facade. Yes, it's a few blocks away but it definitely alters the skyline compared with what's shown above.

Updated Renderings for 125 Greenwich Released

Quote:
Lower Manhattan is the most densely populated county in America, with 70,826 people per square mile. This density in population calls for building upward, and developers in the area have answered the call by building plenty of skyscrapers. One of the newest additions to Manhattan's soaring skyline will be 125 Greenwich, an 88-storey condominium building. Located in the financial district, 125 Greenwich will offer 275 compact housing units ranging from 400-square-foot studios to 2500-square-foot three-bedroom apartments. The building was designed by Raphael Vinoly Architects and developed by Michael Shvo, Bizzi + Partners Development, and Howard Lorber’s Vector Group.

This tower is crawling. I think it might be one of the slowest rising at the moment.

Could just be the confines of the space. The SHoP tower on 57th took a long time to get out of the ground as well, and they don't have to deal with the narrower network of streets downtown to get materials to. Plus it appears to have undergone some design changes, which may have delayed things a bit as well. But it appears to be popping up above street level, so may start to ramp up from here on out.
