As legislators prepare to vote on the democratic reform package where Beijing vets the candidates, let's look back at the protests last year seeking true universal suffrage as promised before the handover.
Mongkok was the scene of more rowdy protests, which is a very different scene from the peaceful atmosphere at government headquarters across the harbour. Nevertheless, life continued as usual. People went to work, and the trains continued to run underneath this street.
The sight of busy Nathan Road cordoned off and occupied by protesters was quite a sight. Turning this into a spacious pedestrian-only path was great! Many families were also out taking a stroll to enjoy a breath of fresh air in the heart of town.
