For the land across Maurice's in Beresford i have heard that it Maurice's owner who bought the land, also wants to build an automated touchless car wash like he has in East Bathurst next to his other gas station

Also some lots of the old mill site are for sale, the owner is looking to off load a lot or two to be able to continue his development on the lots he is keeping. He is setback a year on his gas station Petro Canada/Robins donut combo, hes now says june 2018 for opening.

Good news for Beresford. I've seen the building has been lifted up and ready to be pull away.

As for the old mill site. Is he still building condos or only the Petro Canada?
June seems unrealistic to me. With the winter around the corner they will only be able to start in maybe April. There's no way they can have all the tanks/building and everything ready in 2 months imo.

Yes, still planing the condos, and i too think june will be un-realistic, but at this point he is already a year behind so..

The Centre Jean Daigle has opened in Edmundston this past week end, from what I hear its quite a success story. Some videos in this article.

So far it's the perfect story of how a new building benefits a community. I do social media for the Junior A Blizzard and in my normal job I'm responsible for the ticket office. It's been pretty impressive how this community embraced this Junior A hockey team. This new arena is also Major Junior quality. Some players who played in the Q and now play in Junior A have said that it's even better than some Q buildings and the welcome they have received in Edmundston is probably the best they've received from any team.

There is still a few kinks we need to take care of in the building and all should be ready for the next home game which is on the 17th. Also considering we were able to enter the building last Wednesday and had a game on the Saturday is pretty impressive if you ask me.

Some movement at the old MDI Recycling facility in the Bathurst Industrial Park. Not sure what is going on there but seems like they are fixing/painting the building.

Brian Bowes took this aerial shot of the foundation for the new Shannex facility in Chatham Head (across the street from the Miramichi Hospital).

Boston pizza is pushing hard to get a location in Bathurst, they had a full page add in the Northern Light last week stating they had investors, looking for a local operating partner and just low investment needed.

I have a feeling this one will happen in the new year.

A wine bar is also in the works for main street in the same building as the bootlegger and Bo nightclub.

For the rest, renovations still ongoing to both malls but nothing more confirmed. At this point I think retailers are concentrating on the christmas season, we will most likely have good retail news in the new year.

Sounds like things are looking up in both Miramichi and Bathurst.

Looks like the owner of the mill site has found some investors for his project, the acadie nouvelle is reporting this, this would give him the necessary funds to start all his projects and the cleanup on the site.

Only thing i can say is we will see...

Some news from the north!

Zenabis plant in Atholville is coming along, with the legalization looming we can only expect that the phases will come along faster than initially planned, nice needed jobs for the area.

Some storage units made their way across the Osprey truck stop in Dalhousie, besides the rumoured land of the Tim Horton.

Maybe with the failure of energy east, the Chaleur terminal project might pick up some steam in 2018 at the port of Belledune.

Some rumours about a Mcdonald in Beresford, the rumoured land changed hands in the month of December according to snb website. Nothing esle more tangible about this project has been heard or if there is any truth to it. Also the Cars wash across Ultramar in Beresford will see light this year, the owner alos hints that some more commercial space could also be built in the near future.

Bathurst should have a lot of good news on the retail sector this year, most of the projects at the malls have wraped up and units are ready to be prepped according to the needs or retailers. The mining sector is doing well also so this helps with the local economy.

Bathurst regional airport will see its new terminal open later than expected, the runway expansion work and light convetsion is done.

On the restauration and entetainment side it should be a good year, 4 rivers brewers and the new wine bar will make nice additions on Murray and Main street. Also the long awaited restaurant by Joel Aubie that had been damaged by a fire is now open on King street giving another fine dinning option in the city. Also possible for this year would be the construction and opening of Boston Pizza, they are pushing hard for local investors.

Hopefully this year the old mill site will see better days, the owner said he has found financing since it cost him way more than he expected, a sign of Petro Canada and Robin’s donuts opening for the summer of 2018 had been installed so hopefully this is will see the day this summer.

Also, several large parcels of land have been sold last year with little announced on possible projects, hopefully we will find out soon on their future use!

As for the peninsula, i have no news from that way other than a possible new developpment for the Tracadie downtown, mixed used retail and offices that will fill a big gap made by the destruction of several buildings downtown.

Also Construction Navale Atlantique in Bas Caraquet is making good business, cutting edge fishing boats are being built, look at their Facebook page for some pictures.

And for the Bas Caraquet shipyard again, Groupe Ocean has started back operation last years, continuing on the dry dock project and they will also build the new ferry ordered by the NB government.

For the Edmundston area, have not heard anything lately other that the hotel near the grey rock Casino

So lot of potential for this year for the north, hopefully 2018 will be even better than 2017 was.

And in other good news, i finally got a new phone! So should be able to add colour to the page more often!

Happy New Year

Anyway, specifics aside, it's a nice investment in the north of the province to be building cable ferries locally instead of importing them from Quebec yards.

What I'd like to know is why the hell there isn't a year round provincial ferry service to Campobello Island. I know that they have the bridge to Lubec ME, but who the hell wants to drive an hour through Maine before reentering Canada again. Campobello is an exclave, and this hinders development on the island. It would be much more convenient to take a provincial ferry to Deer Island and then take the (existing) provincial ferry to the mainland than the current circuitous route........
