I have a two questions concerning this postcard.

#1 Where the heck is/was Johnson Garden?

#2 Can a lily pad really float with two kids on it? (or have they been superimposed into the pic)

That night was the Founding Ceremony for the new building and Peggy Lee was Dr. Holmes' companion [his wife Hazel was deceased]. I had met Dr. Holmes several times before.
People were polite and did not approach Peggy as this was not a celebrity event. In those days I was too shy to say anything to her. Our family had reserved seats in the first rows. My stepfather was on the Board of Directors.

The construction was a multi million dollar project. The original seating upholstery was bright blue....that's what I remember. The church building is a Los Angeles Historical site.

I found the image captioned in 'Hollywood, 1900-1950, in Vintage Postcards' by Tommy Dangcil.

I'm assuming that the Laughlin Park they refer to is the gated community in Los Feliz which was once home to people like Cecil B DeMille, WC Fields and Charlie Chaplin. It's apparently still popular with showbusiness folks.

I don't know if the Parker Center has been taken down to the ground yet, but here's a shot from "The Case of the Mythical Monkeys" (first aired Feb 20, 1960)...





Another location used in the same episode was the apartment building still at the nec of Las Palmas and Waring...






That's actress Lori March--later big in soaps, apparently, and married to Alexander "The Voice" Scourby. Doing her own stunts. "The Case of the Mythical Monkeys" is a PM episodes full of interesting actors--among them March and Beverly Garland, who is excellent as Mauvis Mead, the author of a trashy novel mixed up with the mob. Normal Fell (who's easy to get mixed up with Jack Klugman) also appears--and last but not least, there is the defendant, none other than Nurse Ratched, Louise Fletcher.

Only a slightly educated guess but house #2 looks like it could be in Palos Verdes. That looks like PV stone on the facade and chimney. The style and landscaping look correct for Palos Verdes too. That's all I got.

This leads me back to Clifton's Cafeterias. Have we seen photos of Clifton's on Hollywood Blvd.? Recently noticed billboards of the era advertising this location "Holly-Western" and it is clearly listed as 5510 Hollywood Blvd. on page 2957 of the '34CD. Location would have been near the Apollo Theater.
