With monorail extension approved, let’s get light rail on a fast track

https://lasvegassun.com/news/2017/no...-get-light-ra/

Quote:
Clark County commissioners took a wise step last week when they agreed to contribute funding to expand the Las Vegas Monorail.

Now, it’s time to take an even bigger step — adding a light rail system connecting the Strip to McCarran International Airport.

The monorail expansion is terrific, as it will link together most of city’s largest convention centers and give many visitors a convenient and inexpensive way to get around.

But even when connected to Mandalay Bay, as the expansion will accomplish, it’s an incomplete solution to the Strip’s horrific traffic problem.
Well, it's start.

County scraps proposal for elevated expressway

https://lasvegassun.com/news/2017/de...ed-expressway/

Quote:
The proposed expressway, which would have cost an estimated $200 million, would have run along Koval Lane and Swenson Street to and from McCarran International Airport. It was touted by county staff and engineering consultants CH2M as the best option for handling airport traffic, which is expected to increase.

Light rail system on Maryland Parkway a good bet for fed funding, RTC official says

https://lasvegassun.com/news/2017/de...d-parkway-a-g/
Quote:
“It has a lot of opportunity for economic development,” said Quigley about the proposed 8.7-mile route, which would connect McCarran International Airport to UNLV and downtown. “It is a corridor that is ripe and right for developer interest. We hear from developers all the time: ‘When is it going to happen?’”

Monorail extension delay continues, unlikely to be ready before Las Vegas Stadium opens

https://lasvegassun.com/news/2019/fe...ZAtm2tLK95tvzA

Quote:
It was supposed to start in June 2018.

The Las Vegas Monorail runs from the SLS to the MGM Grand — in 2017, it hauled 4.8 million people across the back side of most of the Strip. Plans were put in place to extend the route to the Mandalay Bay, connecting the north and south ends of the Strip and putting a stop closer to the rising Las Vegas Stadium.

Light rail is the winning option for Las Vegas transportation

Quote:
Starting this week, the Regional Transportation Commission will hold a series of meetings to gather input on plans for mass transit along the Maryland Parkway corridor into downtown Las Vegas.

Three options will be on the table. But only one will take Las Vegas where it needs to go, and that’s light rail.

It really blows my mind that this Las Vegas forum is a ghost town. You would think that with Resorts World, the MSG, convention center expansion, The Drew, etc., that this thread would have a lot more activity. It's a shame that nobody is posting photos or any type of updates.

I think this forum is like the Las Vegas population. Lots of visitors, no locals.
