It's not about need, it's about want. Current apartment trends are not trying to determine what they can get away with NOT giving tenants, but rather what tenants want to justify higher rents. And it's also about what THAT specific renter in THAT building wants. What purpose does a drive thru serve a tenant who lives in that building?

A lot of students, probably a lot of girls, would prefer a more private gym that's "theirs".

This is better than the foreign students crammed into illegal rooming houses around campus. This will not solve the problem but will help.

Went to Harth on south St. Anne's. Food and service were incredible – truly authentic Italian. Also loved the decor, nothing like it in Winnipeg. That place will make a killing as there's really nothing else in the area, especially on the upper end. That being said, I didn't find it too expensive at all. Not only was the food and ambiance way better than Pizzeria Gusto, but Gusto is so overpriced for what you get.

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been meaning to check this place out. I live just around the corner on Baisinger, so it’s great to have a nice restaurant so close to home.

The menu looks great.

I drove down McPhillips tonight and it looks like Jollibee is set up for a grand opening. Is it set for Tuesday or Wednesday?

Gusto is awesome, and nice restaurants are expensive, mr Winnipeg

I also loved Harth though.

2nd Jolibee opening draws overnight lineups and morning crowds
New location of popular Filipino fast-food restaurant opens at Northgate mall in Winnipeg

By Elisha Dacey, CBC News Posted: Nov 28, 2017 9:44 AM CT

The excitement over a food chain from the Philippines has not waned.

Customers lined up at 10 p.m. Monday to be the first to patronize Jolibee's second Winnipeg location at Northgate mall on Tuesday. The restaurant is also Canada's second location.

Must be some sort of time record from when the building went up to the time it opened, what's it been over a year?

That was late spring until right now. Not a bad timeline.

The Ellice Jolliebee location was clearly a purpose built building but it sat substantially complete for a year before the interior construction even started. If you want to argue it "wasn't purpose built" who goes out and builds a brand new CRU and goes to the trouble of putting in a drive thru purely on spec?

In these situations its pretty much only internal hang ups that add time.

I have zero problem paying a lot for good food – I do have a problem with grossly overpriced places. The pizza is great, and finally the room matches the prices a bit, but the appetizers are frankly bad (bruschetta is terrible), and the liquor and wine prices are out of control.

Re Rustic - the one time I went we tried to ask the owners what type of cuisine it was and they couldn't answer. It also seemed like a poor fit for the demographics of the neighbourhood.

--

Also not sure it was on here but the Nook and Cranny on Portage Ave is definitely closed for good. There is a for lease sign up on the building now.

^ For what it's worth, Rustic's website gave a pretty clear idea of what to expect...

Why would people line-up? There's another location they could go to!

Oh we knew what was on the menu before going to Rustic and were okay with that. We were asking what type of food it was more out of curiosity as we didn't recognize where it was from. That the owners weren't able to give an answer even though they understood the question was somewhat telling. They also felt mismatched to the demographics. That area has lots of seniors that are less likely to try new types of food. They might have had better look downtown or in the Exchange.

Looked at the menu, prices look reasonable. About the same as Bellisimo.

I don't think seniors would like this 'The Rustic' of San Antonio TX.
