Item 1 the Norquay village RT7/RT11 passed with only CARR voting against.
Item 4 which was this proposal went all the way until just before minute, there was a "We must stop Agenda 21" nutcase that spoke, very very entertaining. Council referred the vote until today, it passed this afternoon, again with only CARR voting against.

Yep. I lean Green and it makes me furious that someone associated with that party would spend so much time opposing new development in a temperate city with good transit.

I said as much to her at the Broadway and Kingsway Rize tower hearing, was a good way to get that off my chest

There will be retail at this site? Grocery anchor? any rumours? Speculations?

Pricesmart is down the street... Safeways (2) are down the other way... London drugs are nearbys (2) again....

There will be a grocery store with several smaller retail units fronting along Kingsway, the grocery store will sit in behind the retail units to keep the pedestrian realm animated. There will be a restaurant space as well.
I won't comment on who grocery store operator will be yet.

I am happy to learn that this project was approved. It's a good one and it embodies the principles of the neighbourhood centres plan. Projects like this and 8495 Granville are genuine neighbourhood centres, around which lower scale redevelopment and intensification can coalesce. I am not concerned about this section of Kingsway being over-retailed with grocery stores. The days of a neighbourhood being dependent on a single grocery store are over, not to mention the ongoing visible intensification - new development - and invisible intensification - basement suites, laneway houses, etc. - creating additional demand for staples like groceries. The fact that the project is well massed and likely to be well executed are both positives that should not be understated. Toronto is struggling to create quality substantial infill like this project. Many proposals outside of the central area are little more than titanic collections of towers with little in the way of quality retail. If any is proposed, it is usually an applique of shallow CRUs that function more like wainscotting than neighbourhood-anchoring retail.

It would be perfect for a No Frills.

T&T would certainly fit both the demographics and the needs of the locals. Since the merger with Loblaws they seem to be carrying a wider range of products.

If the Pricesmart at King Ed. & Knight wanted to get ahead of the game, they'd convert some aisles to carry more asian products. The granview highway pricesmart essentially is like a T&T now.

The Rona property on Kingsway has also been sold recently and will likely be redeveloped with a mixed-use project including a grocery store.

Hadn't realized the sale had closed on Rona. Hard to beleive that it'll have a grocery store as well, it's certainly a large enough site to take a traditional big box store in an urban format though.

T&T would work, but could be a category killer for the local mom and pop grocery stores around the corner on Victoria Drive.

I couldn't tell you until it was public info anyways. There will be a grocery store though. I expect we'll hear the announcement before years end.

The PRICESMART on Grandview have seen an increase in business since they have catered to the asian market.

They have taken some business from T&T in Metrotown from people that live in Vancouver.

Their site is large enough to put up a high rise instead of a lowrise.

tried asking around... no one has heard about this... when did this happen? how? WHY? any other info?

so handy to get things from a smaller store... this one, the one on edmunds/kingsway... all excellent legacy stores from the Lumberland days...
