Much like Dartmouth and Bedford are now part of "Halifax". :-)

Can you imagine how silly it would sound if people called it Toronto Regional Municipality?!

Halifax is one community in HRM. Dartmouth is another community within HRM. It is kind of similar to Scarborough and York as former cities that are now part of Toronto.

Very thanks for your explanation.
I understand how Halifax is structured, and this is very useful for move into the city. But, you know how many schools (possibly private) there are in the city? And, you know if there is an conservatory or an academy of music, art, graphic etc?
(I know, maybe i should posted it in the right section, sorry)

Very Thanks.

I noticed that Spring Garden Road has a new website, similar to a shopping mall website that lists the over 200 retail shops plus dining, services and activities.

http://springgardenarea.com/

It is an attractive website that should help to attract more visitors and stores to the area.

Also - you were asking about art and design schools:
Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) has a graphic design program http://www.nscc.ca

Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (NSCAD) has design and fine arts degrees http://nscad.ca/en/home/default.aspx

(those may be the two public schools you found - they are both post-secondary)

Probably.
Thanks for this post, very beautiful schools.
The programs are compatible with what I'm trying.

So, Nordstrom has announced that they are opening four stores in Canada in the next couple of years (Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver).

They also said they plan on opening up to nine stores in the country. I wonder if their plans would include Halifax?

Being an American retailer with a limited roll out plan. I think they will avoid the Quebec market for linguistic reasons.

In addition to the four cities listed above, I could see them being interested in Edmonton and Winnipeg for sure. That would make six. Where would the other three go? I could see multiple stores in the GTA, but for regional completeness, Could Halifax be in the mix?

Thoughts?

I would love if they replaced Sears in the HSC. Sears just isn't that high end for the future of the mall.

As Sears continues to decline, I could see Nordstrom buying the lease of the Sears location at the Halifax Shopping Centre. However, I would rather see it on Spring Garden Road.

In Ottawa, Sears occupies three levels at Rideau Centre. Rumour has it, Nordstrom only wants two of those levels. Also, there is an aging Bay store next to Rideau Centre, it'll be interesting to see if HBC starts renovating to compete with Nordstrom.

With two stores in HRM, I could see Sears giving up one of their leases to Nordstrom. HSC is now arguably more upscale than MicMac so Nordstrom might be a better fit there....

What is going to happen to the Zellers at MicMac?

I would love to see that as well. The new Sisters development behind Mills would be fantastic. What I would like to see is to have a way through Mills into this new development, making for a Spring Garden Rd. entrance. This would also be advantageous to Mills.

One of the nice things about continued development in the Spring Garden Road area is that I could see it becoming an even more desirable retail location. With the Clyde Street buildings there will be some more shops and another 500 people or so living in the neighbourhood. If these improvements continue I could see the area attracting a retailer like Nordstrom. Apparently Apple also seriously considered moving into the former TD block (east of Queen) but then eventually went with HSC. Spring Garden Road was not at that level 10 or 15 years ago. Neither was HSC.

I was told by a friend that works at the mall (HSC) that they plan on renovating it by putting more stores upstairs where the food court is and moving the food court downstairs where the bowling alley is when their lease runs out

The average American Target store is 95 000 - 135 000 sq. ft. The Mic Mac Zellers is 122,348 sq ft so it will actually be quite a large Target. Remember it is 2 floors.

Also, I could see Halifax being part of Nordstrom's expansion plan, and I think Sears in HSC is their best option now that HSC is the upscale destination for stores entering Atlantic Canada.

That Zellers (soon to be Target) in Mic Mac Mall is quite large, it use to be Eatons I think just like the Sears in HSC used to be an Eatons.

If Nordstrom took over the Sears location at HSC which is 3 floors I wonder if they would use only the 2 bottom floors and the top floor next to the Apple store could be turned into more small upscale retail stores (like what they may do with the food court).

But the food court is one floor below the main floor of the mall...?
