Found a high-resolution rendering of Perla. We've seen this rendering before, of course, but not with the same image quality. Click the link to see and save the full size.

the same team did the hotels in both locations, but I think the one they worked on in dtla turned out friendlier & nicer.
They went French with the NYC location and more Italianate with LA, naturally because of the style of building each hotel is in. But they set out to make the LA location brighter. The before-after is pretty much unrecognizable other than the ceiling. This is the most impressive and ambitious renovation in DTLA, arguably surpassing Ace and Freehand. They have 4 restaurants/bars available with the fifth (rooftop bar) coming.

Perla is gonna be a game changer for 4th and Broadway. Beautiful!

Edit: Downtown residents say City Hall is ignoring fires on skid row while cracking down in Bel-Air

I would say it would make more sense to focus LAFD's limited resources on areas that are more prone to fire spreading, such as places with wide expanses of brush.

I couldn’t put my finger on why I keep mentally comparing Freehand to NoMad until it occured to me that they’re both by the same team. You can "feel” the expertise and high level of work and the attention and thought to detail in both projects.

The Sydell Group should seriously just spearhead every renovation in LA. I wouldn’t mind the city throwing money at this team to stay in DTLA just because they’re so fast and so good and they don’t mess around. The Freehand Hostel may be marketed towards budget travellers, but it’s no less meticulously designed and renovated as their recent crown jewel, NoMad. You’ve got to just hand it to the New Yorkers, when it comes to renovating historic property, they just know how to do it.

I've previously saw that pic of the pre renovated lobby of the old Giannini place bldg, but comparing it with the nomad work makes me realize a lot of the molding & other modifications.....which I at first thought were just a restoration of original design elements....actually have been added by the new owners. The interior possibly is more formal & elaborate today than it was over 50 yrs ago. fantastic!

The other images:
thanks to one of your photos, I can see the site where a hotel was supposed to be under construction by now.....the hotel on 9th St near the fwy that some ppl have described as a design belonging in Vegas or Phoenix.....is surrounded by a fence, but the parking lot is still being used to hold cars.

this is one of your pics that I want to insert in this thread.....the rundown condition of the merritt bldg has long been one of the major disgraces of broadway, but dtla in general. Knowing it's finally receiving TLC & appears to be going through the clean up process is such a great relief...

hunterkerhart

btw, brigham's pics of the new nomad include some very helpful shots of areas that so far haven't been seen elsewhere on the net. His one photo of a hotel rm window looking out over 7th st towards the brockman bldg....& a partial view of the bottega louie restaurant.....makes me think of the time when I thought their neighbor across the way was being a daredevil in opening a major restaurant in a still untested & shaky dtla. I remember thinking back then how risky it was of them to open such an ambitious proj before knowing full well whether dt would support it or not.

We still have a couple of months of rainy season, so do a rain dance or pray for a Feb-March deluge.

Anyone hear anything recently about that building with the Batchelder tile discovery? It's been quiet for almost 2 years now.

Does anyone have details on the developments at 10th/Stanford and 12th/Stanford in the Fashion District? They've been under construction for a bit, but haven't seen any articles on them.

The last crane from the Metropolis site has been taken down. Will definitely miss the cranes at Metropolis.
