Great photography but maybe layoff the editorializing? "North Shore ghetto"? Really?

Really like that you've discovered a lot of the small town treasures in the outer parts of the region. I saw that Apollo rail hotel for the first time last summer... what a strange, creepy building with an unusual orientation.

Yeah it's pretty crazy. I've never seen a building like it before. Looks like something you'd see in the old west.

I generally agree, but other than replacing the "Shore" with "Side", I don't have much of an argument with this particular comment. He's right, a good amount of the North Side still IS kind of a ghetto, though it's obviously changing fairly rapidly for the positive in quite a few areas.

I'm absolutely loving how much attention Pittsburgh is getting recently, not only around here, but in contemporary media as well. The Warrior with Tom Hardy (awesome movie) took place primarily in the city as well as Jack Reacher (not so awesome, but I watched it anyway because it was in Pittsburgh) with Tom Cruise.

Not to mention one of the biggest video games released this year, and probably one of the best games I've ever played, The Last of Us has a very substantial post-apocalyptic Pittsburgh section.

All the pictures I've seen make it look like I would be very at home there, despite that I've never lived in an even remotely similar environment.

Yes pittsburgh I think is really taking off as a city and progressing past it's blue collar roots into a more liberal minded city and people are taking note. It's truly one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to and I've been to a lot. The economy here is starting to take off, although I need to find a better paying job, but things are turning around for this once declining city.

I like the way you shot the primitive Fort Necessity through the blades of grass... great composition.

Or the ones this very week back in 1983!

My hats off to southern Cambrians, have to be a hearty type to live in that valley!

Ive been in Pittsburgh for four months now and have explored most of southwest PA and the surrounding areas.

You've never been to my house... I live in Baden about 15 minutes east of your nice pictures of Rochester/Monaca/Beaver river confluence.

Your usual stellar photographic work. Thank you for showing some aspects of Pittsburgh that get brushed under the rug.

St. Louis is basically like pittsburgh, minus the hills. In fact it's around the same age as well, both cities had their roots in the mid 1700s. St. Louis is just as gritty if not grittier than pittsburgh. Although, there is much more brick architecture in St. Louis than in pittsburgh.
