The ChiArch blog has a great write-up today of the new, 17 story West Loop Gateway building, with photos. The building design itself is average, but the location is great and it's a pretty decent height, even given the infamous NIMBY presence in that hood.

Turned out well enough. But why do cars need to be hidden? Just put clear glass up already. Yes, more expensive and more difficult to keep clean from all of the exhaust (perhaps), but it can't be that much more.

Use opaque materials just do some decent masonry work for once. Glass can't always be the easy out to making something look good.

Nice - better shot than mine, since the afternoon light doesn't create the same effect than a morning shot does on the east facade.
