I'm of two minds about this.
Firstly, I was never in full agreement with taking the Uteck Bowl out of Halifax in the first place. The bowl game has a strong tradition in Halifax and is named for Larry Uteck to begin with. I wonder if the decision to award the bowl game to Moncton wasn't designed by the AUS to embarrass Halifax (and Saint Mary's) into doing something, anything, about the atrocious stadium situation down there.
On the other hand, I
do think that Moncton didn't get a fair shake at hosting the game. The decision to play the game on a Friday night probably halved the potential attendance, and the weather didn't cooperate either. It was bloody cold that night. I know, I was there!
It should be noted that the AUS doesn't know where the Uteck Bowl will be played in 2013. They are talking about maybe letting the game be played in the stadium of the AUS conference champion. This idea has merit
but, in the unlikely situation of Mount A winning the AUS championship, it would be ludicrous to consider holding the Uteck Bowl at MacAulay Field. In that situation, it would seem likely that Mount A could host the game at the Moncton Stadium, since it is less than a half hour away. Alternatively, Mount A could use Rocky Stone Field. The Mounties
have played home games at Rocky Stone, and we know that this field can accomodate at least 4,000 spectators for high school football.
Time will tell......
