BOISE | Simplot Corporate HQ | 147ft | 9fl

This proposal is going to the design review committee later this month. This structure will be the new corporate headquarters for the J.R. Simplot Company, which is one of the largest privately-held agriculture companies in the country. If you've had french fries from McDonald's, chances are pretty good they came from Simplot.

This building will be 335,000 sq ft with an 185,000 sq ft underground parking garage. it's part of the JUMP project that's currently well under construction on the same 4-block lot, and which you can see here.

thanks to BoiseAirport for finding these renderings.

I just posted about this in the Mountain West thread but the skybridge should be eliminated. Sky-bridges take away street-level pedestrian activity and shift it inwards instead.

Skybridges don't make the connection

"Skybridges also foster less public investment in the street. After all, if people are supposed to cross upstairs, we don't need those crosswalks any more. Maybe we can get rid of this light. How about an extra turn lane in front of this new complex? Wouldn't traffic move better with a flyover ramp in addition to the walkway? And before you know it, the street that was formerly a suburban arterial has practically turned into a freeway—the exact opposite of the boulevard citizens want. Once you take away pedestrians, there's no reason to engineer what remains for pedestrians, and the cycle of auto dependency gets deeper..."

http://greatergreaterwashington.org/...he-connection/

Additionally, the blank wall at ground-level on the building on the left should be changed or eliminated. Blank walls at ground-level do nothing to create a vibrant streetscape and appear to be a cold, concrete, bunker.

YEAHHH!!! I've been waiting for renderings of the Simplot building. It looks great too, low but not reminiscent of a suburban office park, and great integration with both the street and the JUMP park. I have a feeling the overall complex will do a great deal for bringing downtown Boise into the spotlight and will be a awesome new public space...something all great cities need.

btw 202, while I agree to some extent about the skybridge issue, it is worth noting (and it's fresh in my mind due to a similar discussion in the DTLA thread regarding the Medallion addition, which incorporates a skybridge) ..that this particular bridge is only for the purposes of moving within the headquarters complex. It's not the same as a skybridge or tunnel system like those of Minneapolis or Houston, respectively, which link multiple buildings that otherwise have nothing to do with one another.

agreed. i was concerned that it would be too suburban looking and sprawling, but i like how the blockiness is broken up.

here's a great rendering that our own BoiseAirport did to show context of this proposal:

Simplot World Headquarters

An exciting addition to the city of Boise. The headquarters building compliments the JUMP project, as it doesn't over power it's adjoining neighbor in the 4 block development.

This proposal has been approved by the Design Review Committee, though they are reconsidering different materials.

I know Simplot is eager to get this underway, so this looks like it'll be a go soon.

They should be starting the new HQ construction soon if this building along with Jack's Urban Meeting Place (JUMP) are to be completed by the end of 2015/early 2016. JUMP is progressing along nicely.

Finally some signs that work may begin. The construction fence has been moved today farther out on Front.

Fantastic looking project! Any city would be lucky to get this. Also I love that image of the Boise skyline, a lovely looking city. The new 8th & Main tower looks sweet.

this project is well underway. the two cranes (in the foreground) are in place and work continues on the underground parking garage. hopefully we'll start seeing steel rising this fall.
