It looks like the existing building will get some upgrades:

Bank of America Corp. wants to bring more of its New York staff to one hub.

The company is starting renovations on the HBO building and three floors of the Grace Building across from its 55-story tower at One Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan, it said in a statement Wednesday.

When the project is completed by 2022, a large portion of the bank’s 13,000 New York employees will be at six properties clustered around Avenue of the Americas.

Maybe BofA will position itself for an eventual consolidation of space down the line.

So frustrating our nearsighted zoning code doesn't let them replace this POS with a supertall.

If there's any single lot in the city that's appropriate for a supertall office building, it's this one.

I’m curious if in 15 years or sooner 5th ave to Broadway/ Times Square would be rezoned similar to midtown east. Perhaps that’s the reasoning for this cosmetic upgrade instead of a new structure. Waging that increased FAR on that plot will yield a taller tower down the road.

Does anyone know or have access to a map of Manhattan that shows FAR?

This is the perfect site for a 1MM+ sf office building, too bad its just getting new cladding. Scaffolding has gone up in the past couple days, full steam ahead.

It’ll come down eventually. The space and potential is much too valuable

I noticed today they're tearing up the plaza behind the building, don't know what that's about. Meanwhile, looks like work beginning on the building itself.
