I'm glad OKC is finally getting a new tall. I've never been there, but its a fast growing city from what I understand. Leave it to the local yokels writing for the paper to hype up this building into something its not.

Don't get me wrong 850' is still VERY tall, especially for a city like OKC which has nothing near that height right now.

If you drew a rough line, OKC would fall in and qualify.

2nd, the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas is a structure, not a true building and doesn't count.

San Francisco's building would only be 3ft taller anyways.

Seattle to Chicago is a different ballgame, and Minneapolis falls into that rough line.

Now this article has the stories right, but they have 908' as new proposed height.

http://okc.about.com/od/attractionsa...devontower.htm

Construction starts today with official ceremony on Oct 6th. Is it time to make a new construction thread or use this one

Once photos are posted proving construction has started, then this thread will be moved to Highrise Construction.

That's a terrible argument. If I drew a curve from Oregon through the mountains down to Oklahoma then across through Tennessee to the coast, then this building would be the tallest from the Coast to Coast! The point is that the stat is severely misleading, to the point of wrongdoing.

It's a beautiful building and is a great height, but we should call it like it is. The tallest in Oklahoma and ONE of the tallest west of Chicago. To make claims of the tallest or otherwise over simplifies everything.

All the highrise construction going on in Calgary, Canada, with 1.1 million people, and there is'nt an 800 footer out of the bunch. At 850' this is a monster of a building considering it's surroundings. Minneapolis comes close with 3 near 800'.

I can expect more tall building like this in the near future for OKC, I believe OKC does not have a height limit? though I could be wrong.

They have no restrictions. A few over 200ft are along the NW Expressway, near Penn Square Mall.

Well, then we can say at 908ft, it is the 2nd tallest in the Great Plains. That is w/o a doubt.

I'm ready to drive by and see that construction equipment! Supposedly various giant machines have been arriving consistently for a week or so. Drove past downtown on I-40 but couldn't see anything from there.
