Houston at night? You bet!

I was in Houston for business on Friday and decided to stay the night and snap a few shots of downtown. I explored maybe 20% of downtown in about 4 hours, 9 PM – 1 AM. My impression: the parts I saw were clean, safe, and quiet with a few pockets of activity here and there. The homeless people like having their photos taken, and Discover Green is a stroke of genius. Hope you enjoy the shots...

Main Street:

One of the metro stations downtown:

The meto police didn't like me taking this photo. Too bad they were too slow.

Houston Pavilions:

House of Blues sign

Discovery Green:

I'd say Houston is getting its park-related development investment

Okay, I'm in the middle of the 4th largest city in the US, and I hear frogs croaking - fantastic.

As a suggestion to Houston, and speaking as one from Dallas, three little letters: L E D

This is the tallest building in Texas, a bit over 300m:

After I was done, tired and thirsty, I had a late dinner here:

And that's it. Houston is very photogenic and the people were friendly - too bad I didn't have the time to but scratch the surface. I plan to return to give H-Town the full treatment soon.

Great night time shots Dallascraper! Houston is sure looking good and I agree Discovery Green has done wonders for the east side of downtown! Again thanks for sharing these photos!

It's very difficult to overly-impress with night photography, but I think you've succeeded! Very, very nice...and creative! High quality photography and I like that.

Very nice! I love the Houston skyline.
I have noticed here in Atlanta some buildings have turned of their night accent lighting completely or they only keep it on for 2-3 hours and it goes out. I'd assume to conserve during this recession.
Has anyone experienced this in other cities?

Yep, everyone is doing it, even the fast food chains that stay open late, so its not just limited to tall buildings & skylines.

Houston looks "ok" at night, but not overly impressive like Dallas, Austin, or even Atlanta. Kinda strange considering Houston is the "Energy Capital of The World" & "Space City". Williams Tower aka Transco Tower is the exception, that rotating beacon is in one word AWESOME & could never be duplicated (unless of course you're the Eiffel Tower), its an icon for all Houstonians.

I love urban Houston. Suburban Houston, however, is the cast and crew of the End of Suburbia.

IMO it looked better in the "Power of Houston" years (1997-1999) when they were doing the fireworks and light show over downtown.

I drive by Transco every morning before sunrise and it's a treat.

Nice shots Dallascaper. Saw these on The HAIF too.

Houston's buildings need a complete over haul on their exterior lighting, but I doubt anything will be done about it in the immediate future. I was in Houston a few weeks ago & was driving south of 610 near the I-10 interchange, it was all dark, no buildings lit just a few office windows on here & there. I just wanted to face palm myself...too bad we don't have a smilie for that. lol

Loved these photos, I didn't want this thread to end.

The new park and all the surrounding development looks really nice.

Definitely, take more soon.
