Nice pic of DTLA. Can't get over how dinky L.A. City Hall looks compared to the newer towers. Still impressive though, and the giant until the 1960s. Iconic building. Where Clark Kent worked. Still the tallest city hall in the U.S. except for Chicago & Philly. 454 feet...# 1 in L.A. until 1968 when 516' Union Bank was completed.

In the foreground, Hollywood Reservoir....that stood in for Mayberry N.C. in the opening of the Andy Griffith show where Opie & Andy fished. Also big in the film "Earthquake".

That's a big Jordan logo on the Ritz Carlton. For years it has been CocaCola

Isn't Chicago City Hall only 9 or 10 stories tall?

Nope, the opening for Andy Griffith was Franklin Canyon.

I do believe the Daly Center is the seat of Chi govt, or is that just Cook County govt? Daly Center is a 600 foot 30 floor tower with the Picasso "vulture" in front. If that is not "city hall", I stand corrected.

Yeah, Chicago City Hall is a Beaux-Arts-style building dating from the 1910s. Daley Center is mainly Cook County government offices, but it does have some city offices, I believe.

Here's Daley Center and city hall: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richar...aza_060716.jpg

With the Grocery Outlet opening in City West, one has to wonder, where is the grocery for the Historic Core?

A grocery store in the historic core may not be practicable considering the out of control homeless situation. Even the Ralph’s had to hire advanced security to check a growing problem of homeless brazenly stealing and harassing customers. Maybe the southern fringes of the historic core is more realistic. Not hatin, just sayin.

I would say ridiculous...adding security is feasible in the historic core. I’ve been to Ralph’s, and Whole Foods And I’ve never had an issue. Not to say others haven’t had issues. But with proper security you virtually feel very safe. Ironically I did have a panhandler approach me this morning in beautiful Pasadena. Lol

Isn't a high end grocer coming to the historic core and converting an old parking garage?

It’s erewhon, and they’re opening at 9th/hill. That’s more South Park than historic core.

I know countless business owners whose businesses have failed in the Historic core because of homeless stealing and harassment. No, adding security will not make enough of a difference in the Historic core to make a grocery store work. Look at the 7/11. Or Mission Market. Or many many many other places that people can easily steal from.

You are very dramatic...I’m sure it’s not countless. Lol

But hey to each it’s own.

It happens when I see people making firm and wrong statements about things that they clearly have no idea about.

Don't forget the short lived grocery at 5th and Main. On the other hand the small grocery between 4th and 5th on Main made it 10 yrs I believe before shutting down after their Iease ended. Never seemed too busy tho...
