This one will likely be happening sooner than later. C/O hindesky on HAIF in the thread on the Home2/Tru Hotel Downtown...

A tower crane operator whose tower crane was taken down recently started following me on IG. I post some of my pics there too. He asked me if I knew any tower crane operator positions coming up since I include so many of the projects. I gave him some possible projects that he could inquire about with the contractors. He contacted EE Reed which is building this and was told it wasn't going to get a tower crane but would be self erected building (whatever that means). He was also told that they (EE Reed) has the 16 story Holiday Inn contract coming up soon which will require a tower crane.

17-story hotel planned for parking lot near Houston's Minute Maid Park

Katherine Feser,
Staff writer
Aug. 23, 2023

A 17-story, Holiday Inn Express/Staybridge Suites hotel will be built near Minute Maid Park, adding a corner grocery for hotel guests and downtown residents.

Sugar Land-based Neway Hospitality plans to start construction on the dual-brand, 275-room hotel at 1319 Texas by the end of September, according to developer Ali Momin, president of Neway Hospitality. The project will replace a 20,000-square-foot, 55-space surface parking lot.

"Our main reason for building this hotel is the location based near Minute Maid Park and the George R. Brown Convention Center," said Momin, adding that some of the amenities "will be grander than what you would see in our typical Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites in and around suburbs."

The hotel will feature 144 Holiday Inn Express guest rooms along Texas Avenue, and 131 Staybridge Suites extended stay rooms, outfitted with kitchens, on the Austin Street side. Room rates were not disclosed.

The shared lobby and amenities, including a bar area, fitness center, meeting room and outdoor pool, will be on the fifth floor atop four levels of parking. Rooms will be on floors six through 17 with those on the sixth floor offering balconies overlooking the pool.

The public parking garage will be available for hotel guests and downtown drivers, including those attending Astros games, Momin said. The development will include EV fast-charging stations on Texas Avenue and in the parking garage.

The street level will house an approximately 3,000-square-foot Urban Street Market grocery store with a deli, coffee and bistro on the corner of Texas and Austin, across from the Catalyst high-rise and 1414 Texas Downtown mid-rise apartments.

"There’s a lack of grocery store options in this part of downtown," Momin said. "This valuable addition to the downtown area perfectly complements the surrounding community and the extended stay Staybridge Suite Hotel situated at our location."

The guy on the right in the hi visibility vest is with Keystone Concrete, he confirmed they will be the concrete contractor, he also said the tower crane will be going up in about a month. He pointed to what will be the pool area for its location. Jayco Steel is providing the rebar.

They were doing a column pour and still digging the pilings.
