Latest work.

From a distance.

New cladding on North Wall.

Future central entrance. They have been doing work to the electrical/transformers just to the right of it. Not sure if it is upgrades, moving or cosmetic. Also, the empty lot across the street is being worked on for what I would guess is parking. The wall along lower water was knocked down. A picture is going on the Hollis/Morris thread.

This photostream has some nice new shots: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bobmcdo...th/5821764781/

They are a pretty good argument for progress in a city where people often think that older is always better and change is bad. Both the waterfront power station and the old Victoria apartments had a certain charm but their replacements are far superior in the ways that matter most. They're both attractive buildings and they will be well-used.

What on earth is going on with this project? I never even see work crews on site whenever I'm down at the seaport anymore.

With a monopoly this corrupt, and a compliant government, cost overruns are not even on the radar. If it goes a year over schedule, they'll just raise our rates again like they always do. Believe me, the dividend sure won't be touched.

I fight that rate increase every chance I get. I hang my clothes outside during the summer and rarely leave the lights on. It's not because I'm cheap, I just hate those Greedy NSP Bastards.

Isn't our cost per Kilo-watt hour pretty competitive? I always hear people say NSP is so greedy, but Quebec is the only place I've lived that has lower rates.

The rates are probably competitive. My issue is more based on their yearly profits. They need to carry certain overhead I understand for disaster relief and whatnot but I refuse to pay for an already over paid exec's raise.

This isn't a NS Power thing though, it's across Canada. Remember a few years ago when an Exec from Hydro-One bonused 800 Thousand Dollars on top of his 1.8million paycheck. (figures are guessed as I don't remember the exacts)

Here's a comparison/explanation from the NEB:
http://www.neb-one.gc.ca/clf-nsi/rnr...nmrkt-eng.html

And here's one that puts things in monetary terms from Manitoba Hydro:
http://www.hydro.mb.ca/regulatory_af...ate_comp.shtml

NS is among the most expensive. About 3rd highest overall on both charts. I complained about NSP passing on these costs to the consumer waaaaay back at the beginning of this thread, but got shouted down at the time...

A big part of the reason for this difference is just that the Maritimes don't have much hydro power.

It is kind of unfair because they are the only provinces that didn't gain territory and resources from Confederation. Few people seem to appreciate that or the fact that resources dwarf equalization.

I still can't get over the fact they aren't cladding that back section.

I think that it will eventually be fixed up for the new Discovery Centre, although it is difficult to predict if it will be the same cladding as the remainder of the building.

Based on what I read from 2008, NSPI wanted to complete the old Electropolis Building also but the NSUARB didn't allow them to finish the additional space for leasing to 3rd parties.

I'm starting to think NSPI has hired the 5 Guys Named Moe to work on this project. Taking forever.

The remodeled power station will look great, if it ever gets finished.

According to an allnovascotia.com story - "Complications Delay New NS Power HQ" by Judy Myrden, employees of NS Power will start moving into this building on August 19th (in one week).

Hopefully we will see some interior pictures soon.

allnovascotia also said that completion isn't expected until November. That would put it a full 8 months behind schedule assuming they actually do finish by that date. They go on to say that this is part of the reason the president's bonus was reduced from 1 million $ to a measly $934,000. Poor guy.
