Now that classes are finally winding down for the quarter, I had time to head into the city last night and this was the first thing I noticed. I found it very much to my liking. At first I though it was some sort of Christmas decoration put up, like in Embarcadero or Transamerica.

Can't you see the color peeking through the "key" hole?

I drove past viewguysf's place along Portola Drive, heading down the hill towards Market Street last night. I couldn't see any color up their either, from the west side.

Unfortunately, no. All I see is the dim outline of a tall thin box with very faint red lights on top (I'm surprised that they are not brighter and more prominent). Sometimes you can hardly tell that there is a building on that hill at all. I did notice last night from Potrero Hill that the colored light was very much visible from the slit at the top. I guess it's just the angle of the building that determines from where it can be seen.

I peaked again last night on the way home. It really is rather dim from the west side, especially compared to the top of 555 Mission. The other 3 sides of the building are where the lights should be much more visible. If the second tower gets built, we should eventually see the reverse east-west effect. I am looking forward to seeing that someday.

Andrew - yeah, they're pretty close to finished with the exterior of the townhouses. I took a shot I'll post this evening.

I also found this shot of the pool area on SocketSite today:

Note: that's a reflecting pool in the foreground. The swimming pool is to the right.

Here's today's look at the townhouses:

And the rain clouds were causing the tower to go in and out of view:

Those townhouses look nice, they really gave them great finishing touches. I cant really recall, but is there suppose to be something on top of the corner townhouse in front of the freeway ramp?

Also, how is the freeway ramp wall coming along? Last time I was in the city, traffic was so bad I opted to take Golden Gate back instead, so I missed out.

The wall is done and they have back filled dirt against the top portion. That whole area is ready for landscaping. I'm not sure what (if anything) that area at the top corner of the townhouses will be used for. I've imagined it to be a seating area, but don't know for sure.

i guess the common area is considered done now as one of my friend who has a unit at rincon told me yesterday that he got a refund check from the builder because the owners of the unit were paying association fee all this time but yet the common areas were delayed by the builder. the builder refunded about $200,000 to the HOA.

Good luck getting any use out of that pool up there on Rincon Hill. No matter how much it is heated (at considerable expense), you'll freeze to death when you get out and I doubt the experience will seem worth it when the novelty wears off. My building has a pool that's surrounded by 4 stories of building (rather than a short glass barrier as I see here) and yet I haven't used the thing in 10 years mostly due to wind and the ambient SF temperature. Outdoor pools (like roof decks) in SF are one of those things that may attract some buyers (mostly those from other climates) but ultimately get few users. At least from the decks you get a view and you can wear a parka while looking at it.

I only use my pool a handful of times per year, for all the reasons already given. Brrrrrr

Thanks for the pics (saw your full thread too)

Now, if only we could get that second tower thrown up next to it

Looks like you managed to sneak One Hawthorne in there too.

^ Heh, and Blu (at least I think that's it on the far right). I also caught ORH and Blu from this angle earlier in the week:

Have any of you seen The Devil's Finger on Flickr? They're not fans of the building, but have some outstanding photos of it nonetheless.
